I have a very talented mare and i hope to start showing her soon (only had her for three months :) ) and Im really confused about boots for her. Does she need them? I usually school her in some flourescent brushing boots (front only) but im guessing flourescent yelow will be frowned upon...i dont want to look daft but ive never showed before. help me? Ive not got much cash either (tetanus inoculation bills come at akward times do they not?!)

Are you going to be SJ or showing?

If SJ, then open fronted tendon boots would be best. Don't worry too much about it though, the boots you have already will do the job - unless she's really careless!:D

i have the leather look synthetic tendon boots made by shires.
im not sure if this link will work http://www.shires-equestrian.co.uk/cgi-bin/WebObjects/ShiresEquestrian.woa/5/wo/1ACz483iQXAeQ3lyfEkmGg/5.0.82.1.0.1 but on the shires website the boots are called all round fetlock boots and open fronted tendon boots. they look very smart and give an ok amount of protection.

do you need boots?

does she knock herself?
are you protecting your horse because of old injuries? these are really the only reasons for boots. imo

i like to do open front jumping boots on the fronts (expecailly if your horse is a tad lazy about hte poles, that way the horse feels it when they knock the poles) and regular brushing boots on the back. Tahoe knocks himself all the time so i use boots anytime i know im going to be really jumping. or working in tight circles.

Good idea to wear boots while jumping as an bad landing can result in miner cuts or worse case tendon damage so tendon boots are a great idea :) either open or closed fronted... most of the ones around on the market look smart enough i recommed Eskesedon (sp sorry) ones personal choice though........ best of luck!

by far my favorite jumping boots (i do eventing, and i use these for xc and stadium!) are the woof all-purpose or galloping boots. They come in white (or black) and even come in colored straps. I have a set of 4 white galloping boots (M for fronts, L for backs) for stadium, and black all-purpose boots with light blue straps for xc (same sizing.) I ALWAYS put 4 boots on all four legs no matter what im doing (besides a dressage show, obiosly) because the point is to preserve our horse's delicate tendons and legs as long as possible. It's worth coughing up extra cash to protect them!
