Hi - We have a Section A (full up 12hh and fairly stocky) intended for my two children as a lead rein M&M but who is proving a little much for them. I have been riding him and have been told I could show him in M+M classes. I am fairly small - 5ft1 and about 8 stone but am the wrong side of 40 !! Would I look completely out of place in a class of small ponys? Do you guys have any pics of adults showing small pony's. I really don't want to make a complete fool of myself and the pony!

At the larger of our local shows, where there are welsh breeders / producers showing, their stock are generally ridden by adults, some of whom are far larger than you. It seems to be perfectly acceptable. I dont think that you would feel out of place unless it is a small show more geared to kids, though you will inevitably be competing against some. If you were really woried you could always go along, enter for in hand as well, and see on the day.

at the larger shows oyu would look quite normal. i used to show a 12.2hh welsh B and im 5ft4. i regularly compete at county shows and regularly see adults in the ringin smalls! they even have separate classes now. M&M leadrein, M&M first ridden, M&M small rider under 18 and M&M small open!

You'll be fine. You're about the same size as Heather Harrison who shows Dartmoors very successfully, and won M&M WHP at HOYS in 1996. There are plenty of smaller adults who are lucky enough to be able to ride the smaller natives.

Sounds okay to me!
We need more folk the "wrong side of forty" to go out and set an example and rise above accepted ideas!

I am the right side of 60, he is the right side of 20 and we are still up for it -
but it has been disheartening that we can only enter as individuals at area level hunter trials/show jumping as no one wants us in a team as at under 14.3 he can't go to the nationals !
We might get around to showing in M&M soon but I really prefer jumping still.
ANYONE OUT THERE INTERESTED IN SHOWING OUR EXMOOR ? HE IS SO HANDSOME I BELIEVE COULD MAKE A HOYS M&M HE HAS MORE IN FRONT THAN SOME 14.2'S DESPITE BEING ABOUT 12HH.
I REMEMBER A PICTURE IN RIDING MAGAZINE IN THE 50'S OF A SMALL MAN IN A BOWLER HAT SHOWING AN EXMOOR - THIS CHAP WANTS A JOB LIKE THAT!
HE WANTS TO PLEASE IS A WELL SCHOOLED 8 YR OLD AND RESPONDS WITH "YES"TO ALL QUESTIONS ASKED. HE HAS BEEN VERY PATIENT WITH CHILDREN BUT IS BURSTING TO STRUTT HIS STUFF WITH AN ADULT
