I don't know anything about the showing apparel over in the Uk, but just by looking at the pictures the Caldene Wool hacking/ show jacket is the one I think looks the best.

First one is polyester so not really what you want.

Second one isn't the best colour - blue is rarely worn by the professionals and as you're aiming at the champs you want to look as professional as possible.

Third one again is grey/blue and doesn't look to be the nicest patterned fabric going.

Fourth one is a bit busy and again grey/blue, ideally you want brown or green. Plus breast pockets are a man-jacket thing. ;)

Fifth one looks good to me, although you could maybe get something with an overcheck instead if you wanted it to be a bit more fashionable.

I can't really tell about the sixth one, it looks green but then the swatch looks grey. It has a green velvet collar though, so I would be inclined to change that if you did buy it.

i like 5 or 6. They are the only ones in that lot id be seen dead in in the ring! The first one is a dublin jacket and you dont want one of those if you can possibly help it.

If you go for number 6 which is very nice. designer browbands do replacement velvet collars so you could change it to a blue collar

What about this one? Although it's a big jump in price it'd last forever and if you ever want a new one it'll have a high resale value.

Caldene-Pure-Wool-Hacking-Jacket (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Ladies-Caldene-Pure-Wool-Hacking-Show-Jacket-36_W0QQitemZ7234613594QQcategoryZ47268QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

or this one (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tweed-Hacking-Show-Jacket-Size-10-12-38_W0QQitemZ7233740439QQcategoryZ47268QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) which looks strikingly similar to me.

Edited to say I very nearly almost bought one identical to the first one. Put it to one side at work and my boss noticed it, stuck it on ebay, and I lost it by £2. It went for £92 in the end.

i dont like the second one youve posted daffy. for a start it is single vented! and the colour is icky!

the first one is nice except for the single vent.

I have found this one, but am not sure, can I get away with grey pinstripe, it is beautiful, and a John Whitaker! And it is unusual!

I was going to bid ont hat second one, but I thought it was icky as well!!!

I'm not sure about any of them to be honest, the last one (on the first post) is the best but the pictures aren’t that clear, making it hard to tell if the jacket grey or green and you would probably have to change the collar.
That jw one isn’t a tweed :(, my yo's got it (for sjing) with out the pinstripe and its very lightweight, but nice for jumping :). The collar is also black, and the sliver piping wouldn't really be suitable in the show ring.
Sorry I've not been much help, but I'll keep and eye out for suitable one for you :)

I would say 5th one down is the best. Quite plain but very smart.

With the right tie etc it could look justas good as any other.

Nah. mum said I can go up to £100 for the Barbour one, so I am going to go for it! The one that comes with all the stuff, so keep your pinkies crossed for me!

Ok, couple of thick questions (and please don't start world war over them.)

Why don't professionals wear blue tweed? (am  - one of the biggest professional sec B breeders in this area wears exclusively blue tweed in-hand)

What's wrong with single vents?

And why don't you want a Dublin jacket?

in reverse order.
dublin jackets tend to be 100% polyester. they get wet an loose their shape endup looking about as good a a wet dish towel..

single vents have a tendancy to sit wrong when in the saddle and a double vent will sit better and give a more flattering shape.

proffesionals dont wear blue tweeds normaly because it used to be that blue tweeds were cheap icky things. It makes you look ameturish and alot of judges (ridden) dont like them.

I think we'll start to see some blue at county, but not the typical "pony club" cheap herringbone. Pretty Ponies are doing a lovely dark blue tweed and it's good quality.

possiboy but i doubt it.

I must admit, I have seen blue but not too much of it, both my friends, one with a HW coloured cob, and the other with a Sec D, used to wear blue, and at local it is fairly common. But county level blue is rarely seen, that is specifically why I have gone for an olive green colour.

I have seen that pretty ponies jacket, and it is gorgeous, let's hope that it encourages people to wear it!

I agree about the polyester jackets! And you don't half get sweaty in them!
