View Full Version : Boots ... recommendations

I'm starting to think about competing in the future ... probably inspired by Saff's lovely canter at the weekend in the school (2 days running didn't fizz up, didn't gallop around like a nutter, didn't deposit me against the wall at the end).

So ... I'm starting to think about some 'proper' boots. I like them high cut and would prefer a zip (easier to squeeze my humungous calves into). I don't want the MH style, I want something more elegant and traditional. Will also be possibly (probably) be looking at customs because I've got small feet but muscular calves so find it almost impossible to get stock boots to fit.

I've already got joddy boots and gaiters but I would like a pair of boots too at some point :)

I'm looking for good quality even if that means I have to pay more (will need time to save up :) ).

sorry cant help you. I have big calves and short of having them custom made I could only go for MH's. However the sportive ones are very elegant looking, they are cut higher, nowhere near as bulky in the toe or baggy at the ankle as the normal high riders.

Thanks Ditz :) I'm thinking more along the lines of Koenigs etc, that kind of look. I'll have plenty of time to save as madam isn't ready for competition (apart from possibly a walk and trot test) yet :D

A friend of mine has big calves and she got a pair of Sergio Grasso and they were altered to fit. I did try them on and must say...pure comfort.

The Koenigs are supposed to be comfortable but I haven't tried a pair on.

Good Luck

The only pair that have ever fitted my short wide legs are Regent Pro-Euro - lovely! Didn't buy them though:(

The konigs are lovely, my boss had a pair made for her daughter. Well worth the money.

I really like Sarm Hippique boots, or Cavallo, like these (http://www.derbyhouse.co.uk/ProductDetails.aspx?language=en-GB&ProductID=5540012&CategoryID=LongBoots). I have slim calves but I like my MH Sportives but they are too messed up for the public appearances now, so I wear Regent boots for show.

I can really recommend Equitector boots
http://www.equitector.co.uk/index.htm?subj=Long+Riding+Boots

Everyone there is so helpful and friendly, the boots are exceedingly good quality leather and cost about £150 off-the-peg, £175ish made-to-measure. A bargin I think - I'm certainly getting a pair as soon as I can afford them!;)
