Little Fluke (baby share pony) had a pretty exciting Easter. He jumped his first teeny course on Sunday -- I wasn't there but I've seen the video -- and he loved it. So the local show down the road on Monday was too much to resist...

He hacked down there, and, once his mum had checked that the bottom-cup jumping really was on the bottom cup, he was signed up, hors concours. Waiting outside with his mates was tremendously exciting... going into the arena was a bit of a surprise, as he'd never been in an indoor school before... but once he realised he was there for the jumps... bless him, he flew round. His mum (caj on here) and I, who were watching, clapped like mad as he went clear. And then at the end his name was announced -- he came 5th! No rosette as he wasn't really in the competition, but his mum was beaming with pride. I felt quite choked myself.

Stupidly, I didn't take any pictures of him on show day with his fancy browband. But here he is in the days before he was a jumping star:

Bless.

Thanks, but I'm just the support team! I only hope he remembers his aunty neen when he's all grown up...

Not having jumped in years, I must admit that seeing little Fluke bouncing round did make me think "If he can do it, why can't I?" Needless to say I quickly suppressed this thought!

He didn't mind all the commotion at all, Horsesaddle, I think he thought it was all quite exciting. Bit of a change from his usual life munching with his fieldmate. He's got such a calm, trusting nature I think he just assumed all those horses and people had come along to make friends with him.

Just off to catch up with him now -- hope his success hasn't gone to his head!

Why did he have to go HC? He sounds great! :Dhad to go hc as my daughter competes with her other horse on a much higher level so wouldn't have been fair on true novice combinations for her to be placed what a clever boy though and said he preferred a carrot to a rossette!
