Have you ever taken your horse home and popped him into your 3 bed semi's garden for the day????

Call Me Mad :p

OMG I had a fantastic day today. There are a lot of advantages to having your horse in your back garden..
1. You can spend quality time with horse whilst doing housework.
2. Relax whilst watching your horse graze on grass.
3. Confirm to neighbours that you are mad.
4. Clean tack in the sun.
5. Get grass cut without dragging lawnmower out of back of shed..

Oh and the most important thing, sling tack on and go out for 2 hacks in one day still being able to cook for family instead of "Fend for yourself tonight kids......" :D

What a great day you had! And Captain is too cute!

It's true horses in your back yard are entertainment, lawn mowers & fertilizers all rolled into one. Hehehe

I desperatley wanted to get a photo of my 1yr old cat sat in the garden looking at Captain as if to say "Damm your 1 big cat". My dogs are used to it but my cat had never met the horses before. :D I do dream of having my own house and land. That day will come. I will work my butt off until the dream has come true..:p

Oh superb! I would if I could but my garden is barely big enough for my cats let alone the horse! And I certainly would struggle to turn her round in it!

Great photos NN!

I love the one through the open back door - he is soooo adorable.

Yip, your neighbours must definately think you are mad now but hey it keeps them talking:D

We have a long, tandem garage going down to the garden at the back of the house - I keep saying to OH that it would look much better converted into two stables and with 2 neddies hanging out;)

I wouldn't put Cooper in our garden because as I love gardening it is full of plants that would probably kill him:eek:

Living in the SE house with land is a lottery dream. We only live a mile from his stable so that is not too bad. Good luck with your dream!

You have to get a photo of him with the cat:p

I have ridden home for a drink of water!!! Sadly our house in set down a steep driveway and the access round the side is too thin for Cherry's apple-bum so I have to stay on the tarmac... but we are at the bottom of a cul-de-sac so it's quiet traffic-wise. I DID get an odd look from my neighbour who was washing up in her kitchen.... she slowly raised a sudsy hand to wave with a look of shock/horror on her face! Thankfully Cherry didn't "mark her territory" - I would have been mortified... :D

NN - v jealous that you can get Captain round the back!!! Lovely pics.....

When I kept my horse nearer to home I regularly used to nip home for the loo while out hacking.I live in a cul de sac and all the neighbours kids used to love seeing the horses.Unfortunately I couldn't put horses in the garden because I would never have got them through the back gate so I used to ride to the front door knock and get someone to hold the horse while I nipped in.

I could have done in my old house in Kent but the new house in Somerset has a teeny garden. A girl I used to go to school with kept her horse on one side of the estate we lived on and used to ride home quite regularly.

Love your photos they really made me chuckle!

My horse lives a good 20 miles away from where I do and I'm not sure her fitness levels would get her there, she'd probably collapse!!! (Also there is the small matter of the 10 mile long dual carriageway we'd have to ride along). Once we got home she'd probably just about fit through my garden gate (if she breathed in) and although my grass is very long and lush, my garden is only about 20 foot long so not really big enough. Oh and she'd probably squash my guinea pig with her big hoof!!
And no doubt my neighbour would be straight onto the council to complain, he doesn't even like my dog and she's a Yorkshire terrier, so goodness knows what he's make of my horse

It must be really lovely for all you lot that can bring your horses home, you lucky lot!!!:)

I didnt hack him home. I went and picked him up in the trailer. My neighbours are used to the horses being at home. One Winter the field was that much under water that I fetched Bonnie home for a fortnight. But she is only 11hh so the neighbours just thought it was a novelty and didnt mind. I have often wondered about putting 2 stables up at the bottom of the garden with a concrete front so that I could bring them home for the weekend. Captain's bottom just manages to squueze throught the songle door entrance into the garden. It is a bit tight if I have his tack on but I walk him through carefully and he is very obliging.:D

Brilliant! Love the pictures:D

It's one of my goals to get Dolly fit enough to ride the five miles home and back.. maybe later in the year!

A friend of mine used to have a horse and lived in a mid terrace in a cul-de-sac. Her back gate was too narrow for her horse to squeeze through, so she used to take her in through the front door, through the lounge and out the patio doors to the garden. Her neighbours REALLY thought she was mad!:D

I can just imagine HQ on our patio, sipping a g+t as the sun goes down....
:D
(it'll have to stay in my imagination for a while)(she'd freak at the yucca plant or there might be a monster in the bamboo..).

have fun with your home+horsey moments!

Love the pics, Captain is just gorgeous :)
I attempted to hack my last horse home last spring but we got about 1/4 of the way before she decided this was unchartered territory and promptly took me back home :o My youngest sister had spent the entire morning fencing off all the plants too, i felt terrible when I had to say we werent coming.

I did a couple of times when I was a kid living in Devon. If I got really wet out hacking I would pop home to change. My mum came home one time, opened the garage door to find a horse standing there where I had put her to keep her dry.
Another time I visited my grandparents in their semi, I dismounted to go up the garden path which went past the living room window. My grandad was sitting watching a western on TV when he looked up and saw a skewbald horses head through the net curtains. I think he thought the indians had come to get him!

I am not giving my age away here but my grandad told me his Mum used to rush out onto the streets to pick up any horse poo droppings for her roses. When Captain poo'd my son said "Jasmyn Captains left you a present!!!". She took a look sighed and went running to fetch bucket and beach spade. I had left the poo fork at the stables.:p

It's moving too fast even for me these days... but I'll try...

Nic's captain has something nasty going on with his legs, so she took him home to use the vaccum on him.

Whatanejit is putting everyone to shame by her and her OH bonding really well with Cooper, having marvellous hacks and lessons and generally 'getting it right'.

Domane and Cherry have been up to something too... now what was it... as if I could forget- FUN RIDE. Domane feels like she's been run over by a steam roller, Cherry is gagging for more.

Imp is battling with her hacking fears and is going out for a ride on Friday.. she has rescue remedy, a resus trolley and incontinence pads at the ready, but won't be needing them.

Sadly Shikari's girl is inexplicably very unwell, and we're all sending good vibes in her direction.

Hillbillyrhaks has stolen Dolly Daydream and given her a sex change... ;)

Dreamchaser has finally found a saddle that fits her and her Dolly... but she's concerned that Dolly's white bits (despite being whiter than snow) aren't actually white enough, so she bathed her.

Tim is his usual insolent self, and hasn't had much to say for himself recently, so has probably taken a tumble from Mr H Horse again.

Mister Jones is having trouble comprehending men. (aren't we all!)

Rob26 can't find a horse big enough to carry his ego, sorry, long legs around, and is considering changing riding schools.

Monty has finally taken delivery of her new foal, who is being an angel.

Esther D and Stephen are lost... presumed to be somewhere between Scotland and Shetland... but their horses have been spotted safe and sound at Wally's place!

Sorry if I've missed any 'big news'... that's all I can come up with off the top of my head:D ;)

We used to have a couple of Shetlands that lived in the garden. They had access to teh field beyond but thought it was much more interesting to hover in the garden where they occasionally got the opportunity to break in through the patio doors and eat the houseplants.

Around that time I also had a coloured colt that we converted the garage into a stable for. There was no light in the stable, so I used to bring him into the kitchen to groom.

Neighbours thought I was mad :D

Hmmm... OK. HC has just about overcome her nervousnellyishness and as long as she's going no faster than trot is enjoying riding Dolly... and today she chucked her in the box with Mr YO and cob, and boxed off for a hack around the woods. AND she cantered.

Domane - Funny enough my stable (kitchen) is smaller than his.

Cazrider - I was watching Seabiscuit again tonight. I love that film it gives me goosebumps. It made me think of Sennie they look soo much like each other. :)

Imp - Captain has got a big bum and a roof just above his head to squeeze through . He is very obliging, course it had nothing to do witht the lush grass on the other side.;) Bless he has been in a sand menage for the last 5 months.

Great photos - I had my share mare on holiday to our back garden a few times, and fenced it off with a row of deckchairs at one point!! Now have re-seeded back lawn into hay feild and have bought old tractor - not obsessed at all! Next door tried to keep their shetland in their garden - it made a real mess and learned to open the porch door and went in and played with the dogs!

When I was little I remember letting my pony drink out of the downstairs bathroom sink - had to do a fast exit out back door one when parents came in front!!! LOL!

Fantastic pictures. Just caught up with this thread. I laughed and laughed until the tears came. Especially of the one with him and the swing.... just part of the garden furniture... and the one of your daughter poo picking, what great fun.

And now I have the answer... My (19 yo) son is heading off to Uni in the autumn - he is going to Leeds, 100 miles away. Of course I will miss my dear sweet boy, but who is going to cut the b***** grass?? - the (new) horsey of course. OH couldnt resist this reasoning, could he? could he?
