Hey,

As I'm finally getting back to jumping, my confidence is coming back in leaps and bounds, I've decide its about time i did some grid works.

Only problem is, it has been so long since i did any grids, I've forgotten how many steps/ strides to do between them to set them up. :o

So Im calling upon you nice people to give me some grid work to do.

What equipment do I have?

i have 10 poles
6 pairs of jump cups
buckets, lol
three sets on normal wings
one set of oxer wings

Many thanks in advance

You missed out one thing i can think of.......height of your horse? Natxx

20 human strides equals 4 horse strides plus half a stride for take off and half a stride for landing.

Before setting out a grid you need to decide WHY you are using a grid. How you set one up is entirely dependant on the WHY.
For instance, if your horse generally gets too close to a fence then set up with a longer stride so they have to stand off.
If he goes long and flat then use a shorter stride to sit him back on his hocks a bit and get deeper to the fence.
If he rushes then build and ascending grid with each jump higher than the previous and this affectively shortens the stride and backs the horse off.
If you want the horse to think for itself then build a grid with varying strides.

Let me know what you want to achieve and I will design you an appropriate grid with the equipement you have.

That would be great thank you.

At the moment, for the use of building my confidence, i have only being doing single fences. Now i'm starting to feel abit more confident i want to build up to doing doubles and triples. As thats where i had my accident.

Grid wise, from what i have learnt from Manny so far, hes just goes at the fences if that makes sense, he sees the fence and hes off. reading what you wrote i think the two that are correct for manny are

If he rushes then build and ascending grid with each jump higher than the previous and this affectively shortens the stride and backs the horse off.
If you want the horse to think for itself then build a grid with varying strides

Plus i need to be able to do combinations so i can come and have that lesson ;) :p
