I bought Oscar, 16.3hh Clydesdale X gelding, with the intention to bring him on to jump and hunt. I'm not really a showing person. However, due to strangles outbreak at my instructir's yard, and lack of facilities (I keep him at home), I havent been able to start him off jumping yet, and am too late to get him going for the start of the season. He has never been to a show before, so I would like to take him along to a couple of our little local shows for the experience, even though we cant enter any jumping classes.
Now for my question, just to give us something to do on the day, what class do you think would be most appropriate? He is sort of like a middleweight hunter type, but they generally have all feathers trimmed, and I like his big CD hairy feet! He looks like a hunter, but with very long legs and hairy ankles, not very deep in the girth like a HW hunter, but lots of bone in his legs. His mane is pulled so I could plait it. His tail is neat, and his coat is fine apart from a few straggly belly hairs. He walks nicely on the bit, trots in a more natural outline but bending nicely into the coners, and canters on both leads. He can pop a cross pole for ridden horse if required. He is well mannered, has nice paces, and is a handsome chappy (I think, though in a gangly, 2 horses stuck together type way...). He does however have scarring / scarcoid over one eye (different vets diagnosis), and a scar on one fetlcok which you cant see for feather just now.
Anything we do would not be serious, but it his only chance to show off his good looks, because as soon as he is jumping we will have a long lie in, arrive at lunchtime, and do our classes unplaited!
Oh, and if any classes are suitable, what would I have to wear? I have a rubbish polyester black show jacket, a nice greeny brown tweed, and a thick wool black hunt coat. I have funny skinney short legs so have to wear short boots and gaiters (cant afford custom boots). I have cream johds, and various stocks, and black hat. I could borrow a show cane as well. He has a black plain hunter bridle with snaffle bit, nice brown saddle and girth, and synthetic black stirrup leathers:eek: (I got him with this mish mash and will change to all brown ASAP)
I dont want to enter him into anything completely unsuitable!
