has an abcess. This is the pony who was 3 leg lame from the OMG!!! thread and we thought she had a broken leg.

She was like it for a week when I had another vet out to give a third opinion yesterday (2nd vet said keep her on bute and we will xray in one week wasn't happy with that!) as she was still very lame holding her foot up. He dug a big hole for it to drain and she has been wet hot poulticed for the second time today. Vet said she may still have a fracture or the abcess could be secondry to laminitis (she has never had it before was already on a starvation paddock and is a super fine section A) but he doubts it, and that there should be a big difference after a few days. Today she seemed even more lame.. should I be worried?

Please share your experiences!

is this your pony that had laminitis? abcesses are common side effects from laminitis. my mare had a bad abcess (linked to laminitis) about 2 years ago. she was box rested and poultice changed twice a day for about 3 weeks. The problem with these abcesses is that they do tend to be deep and take a lot of shifting. don't panic. keep the pony box rested and on bute and it will clear up.

No this pony has never had laminitis... but she does have sweet itch. She is very fine and fit, it's my other chubby section A that has had laminitis once 3 yrs ago.
