5 years ago I had a riding accicdent that scared me badly. I went back to riding and even bought another horse a year later. However I have been afraid to canter. I told my RI 2 weks ago that if we didn't get this canter thing going I was going to quit I had had enough of trot. My RI comes to my home and she also has lesson horses available to her. So off to her lesson horse last week I went. Well I cantored on line, it wasn't pretty but it was several strides several times. Yesterday back to the lesson horse we cantored again. Still not pretty, but more strides lasting longer, on line. This time I actually breathed and had my leg on him, and felt more relaxed. Next week it's to be a repeat performance. A better one I hope. When I get it on a lesson horse, and doing it well the plan is to move all I relearned to my horse.

Well done :) Im sure you will be able to transfer everything you learn to your own horse, it just takes time.

GREAT!! I've been riding for almost two years (at age 41) and have had a horse for a year. Two months after getting her I had a bad fall and hadn't cantered since then (that was last May). The other day I went on a trail ride - had the barn owner ride my horse (to see how she did) and I rode an ancient school horse that I am comfortable on. When we got back to the barn, the barn owner said, "she's all worn out now, why don't you get on her and have a little canter". She helped me canter her a few steps in each direction. It wasn't pretty - I almost came off once, but it was a real confidence booster!

Way to go!!!

Good for you :D

Well done, if you keep doing small steps and building your confidence you will soon be cantering again.
