all the fields are due to be fertilised this week. as the cattle stay in the field after the fertiliser has been spread i was wondering can my horse stay on the grass as well? or should the pasture be left for a while?

I think most probably the horses stay off the fertilised field. at my yard ours has been ferilised and they had to stay off the field for a while. do you have another paddock you could put your horse in?

I know that there are some fertilisers that you can keep horses on - my farmer neighbour does - but better to err on the side of caution.

i know there is no lime in it but other than that i'm clueless. there isn't another paddock that i can use as their doing all the fields. :(

but she's been out 24/7 this past month and bringing her in with no turnout mite make her uneasy. or worse colicky!

I think its because the fertiliser will probably have nitrogen in it, this is dangerous if your horse is liable to go down with laminitis, we had our field done but section them into a bit at the top while the rest was done and they are on hay, after a few good downpoors of rain it washes down into the ground, but I am not sure how long they should stay off, I didnt ask as we are resting the other part of the field anyway.

our fields have just been done and normally they leave the ponies in until it rains. but this time they put them out the next day :S may have been different fertiliser or something? Natxx
