Hello
I saw some sprays in the saddlery for grooming with:confused: .
I've never used anything but elbow grease, even on show horses:eek: , but I wanted to ask if anybody uses them and if they're actually any good?
Any help would be much appreciated

Personally I don't use them but I understand that they can be useful in that if the horse gets muddy it doesn't stick so much so making them easier to keep clean (especially as you're now going into winter). I have heard, though, that they can react with sunlight to bleach the coat - one reaon I don't use them as I have a very dark bay and want to keep her that way :D

I use the mane and tail sprays because it helps to stop the mudcicles on the tail (Saffy's grey!) and also makes brushing out the knots easier (she also has ringlets in her tail which can easily turn into dreadlocks).

I don't use sprays on the body though, still to diet and grooming for the coat shine :) Apart from anything else if you get them under the saddle area you can end up with a slipping saddle. Also ... if you CLEAN the saddle with the coat shine it's not very good for riding in  I keep a spray saddle cleaner for the inbetween times and picked up the wrong bottle about half an hour before my lesson

I use Show Sheen in the spring, but not for coat shine. His coat gleams enough without any help:

Anyways, I groom him, spray him down with showsheen, slick his fetlocks and bottom half of his cannon in diaper cream then turn him out. It does wonders for getting the mud off him since we live on a swamp!

i use coat shines all the time on my lads, it just tops up thier shine for the showring. However a horse isnt going to shine no matter how many sprays you put on it if it isnt healthy from inside.
The best pic i have of stan and his shine is this, but you will have to excuse his non existant outline as he had just done a lap of honour and i gave him his head
