Just wanted to thank you for all your support when I posted a while ago about finding it hard going.... Things now are much improved....

With the opening of the summer turnout for the mares came an overnight change in our routine! Suddenly Cherry went from being in most of the time to being OUT most of it!! The winter field that the girls had been in has never been used for grazing before and turned out to be a disaster so I don't think it will be used again. As a newbie I didn't realise that the fields get rotated and just saw winter upon winter of misery in the distance, but that may not be the case next time. Just for a few nights I am bringing Cherry in again as her muzzle is rubbing a little, so she gets some rest from it. Her weight remains stable (if a little smaller but could be loss of winter coat!) so I will not be turning her out onto spring grass with no muzzle... she will have to wait a few weeks yet!

I still get tired at weekends but I am doing better on my weeknights now that they are lighter for longer... I find it impossible to sleep later than about 5.30 every morning so at weekends now I just accept that I may need a small snooze to recharge my batteries... my yard-mate calls them my "Power Naps" which I love!!! :p

Already I am starting to see a lovely pattern emerging at the yard where people "play ponies" in the evenings - gallavanting round the school and having general merriment, chatter and FUN, with no age-restriction... :D Plus all the events - fun rides, shows etc. Now I am starting to realise what everyone was telling me I could look forward to! :D I also think that buying Cherry in November turned out to be a good time of year because it meant I got all the nasty cold wet stuff out of the way first... she looks so lovely and shiny now with her summer coat and so sleek!!! I had forgotten!

The biggest change though is the interest and desire to ride that has emerged from Dom... I now feel like I have a sharer and I really couldn't have wished for a more perfect situation... it's taken the pressure off me in the best possible way! And as a couple we are being accepted into the crowd at the yard, socialising and everything which is just brilliant!

The death of my stepdad last week, whilst sad, was a quiet blessing as he had been ill for a long time and needed to let go. I feel like a black cloud of waiting has lifted at last (funeral next Tuesday).

I try not to worry about lack of money and console myself with the fact that we can just about afford Cherry which is more than a lot of people can do.... I try to think about all I HAVE got, rather than what I haven't. The power of positive thinking, eh.

Perhaps I DID have a bit of S.A.D. Never had it before so who knows??

Anyway, I'm sorry for rambling but I just wanted to share....

Once again thanks, from a VERY grateful Jane xxxXXXxxx

Oh Jane, I'm so glad you're feeling more elevated. I believe the situation with the yard has helped you enormously from what you've said. Nothing like feeling accepted to make you feel 'good' inside, no matter how exhausted you are :D

You've got a lovely horse, a wonderful, supportive husband and fit and healthy children so life is good... money is another matter but, as my dear, late Nan used to say 'if you've got your health, you've got everything'... ;)

You lucky gal. My Summer grazing isnt ready until the 6th May. Not long to go now. :D. I never noticed my behaviour in the Winter before I owned horses but I do think that alot of our down time is because of the weather. In the Summer we have all the energy in the world to ride until 9pm at night. In the Winter we are ready to curl up and go to sleep by 5pm. Just look at how much confidence boosting threads have been posted in 1 week. We are all feeling happier and healthier and the Sun is out...:D

Jane, you are a darling, and I'm so pleased to hear its going so much better for you, despite the sad death of your step father. Cherry is a lovely horse, she's lucky to have you, and you're lucky to have Dom to share her with. Its great to hear your and everyone's optimism in the Spring. It gets to you doesn't it!:D

I'm so glad that things are looking more positive for you. I'm sorry to hear about your stepdad but sometimes it really is a blessing when they finally pass and are no longer in pain or just too tired for this world.

((((Hugs)))) for the funeral and to you and your family.

:D :D :D :D - for you Jane - winter sucks!

Glad you are feeling better hun.

Re the 0530hrs thing - I'm the same. Problem is, our alarm wakens us at 0515hrs every morning during the week so by body is tuned into getting up at that time, now - even at the weekends. I'm afraid it is also the sign of getting older - as long as you got at least 6hrs sleep your body and mind will be fine.

:p :p I have power naps too:p :p and am often hear bed calling me at 0930hrs during the week and at the weekend I have to force myself to stay up until 1030hrs - where did my party weekends go?

Yee Hah!

We've got 5 whole months of these bright evenings - enjoy everybody:D

Brilliant to hear you are feeling so much more positive Jane:D

My thoughts are with you for the funeral, which no doubt will be hard, but as you said, his passing was a quiet blessing.

Sounds like your yard is wonderful... just the sort of place I'd like to be with Dolly!

What a really lovely post Jane... I'm so glad to hear that things have turned round for you - you sound so positive... fantastic!

I know what you mean about being a new owner through the winter months. I got William in October and there have been times when I thought 'what am I doing this for' the cold, the mud, the dark, etc, etc. but like you I now see a totally different side to stable life which is great.

Glad to hear you are finding things easier :) It is so easy to get bogged down in Winter without even realising it. Which is why I love this time of year so much :D

NR has always proved to be a powerful support network.
It helped me a great deal in the past too.
