Just wanted to thank you for all your support when I posted a while ago about finding it hard going.... Things now are much improved....
With the opening of the summer turnout for the mares came an overnight change in our routine! Suddenly Cherry went from being in most of the time to being OUT most of it!! The winter field that the girls had been in has never been used for grazing before and turned out to be a disaster so I don't think it will be used again. As a newbie I didn't realise that the fields get rotated and just saw winter upon winter of misery in the distance, but that may not be the case next time. Just for a few nights I am bringing Cherry in again as her muzzle is rubbing a little, so she gets some rest from it. Her weight remains stable (if a little smaller but could be loss of winter coat!) so I will not be turning her out onto spring grass with no muzzle... she will have to wait a few weeks yet!
I still get tired at weekends but I am doing better on my weeknights now that they are lighter for longer... I find it impossible to sleep later than about 5.30 every morning so at weekends now I just accept that I may need a small snooze to recharge my batteries... my yard-mate calls them my "Power Naps" which I love!!! :p
Already I am starting to see a lovely pattern emerging at the yard where people "play ponies" in the evenings - gallavanting round the school and having general merriment, chatter and FUN, with no age-restriction... :D Plus all the events - fun rides, shows etc. Now I am starting to realise what everyone was telling me I could look forward to! :D I also think that buying Cherry in November turned out to be a good time of year because it meant I got all the nasty cold wet stuff out of the way first... she looks so lovely and shiny now with her summer coat and so sleek!!! I had forgotten!
The biggest change though is the interest and desire to ride that has emerged from Dom... I now feel like I have a sharer and I really couldn't have wished for a more perfect situation... it's taken the pressure off me in the best possible way! And as a couple we are being accepted into the crowd at the yard, socialising and everything which is just brilliant!
The death of my stepdad last week, whilst sad, was a quiet blessing as he had been ill for a long time and needed to let go. I feel like a black cloud of waiting has lifted at last (funeral next Tuesday).
I try not to worry about lack of money and console myself with the fact that we can just about afford Cherry which is more than a lot of people can do.... I try to think about all I HAVE got, rather than what I haven't. The power of positive thinking, eh.
Perhaps I DID have a bit of S.A.D. Never had it before so who knows??
Anyway, I'm sorry for rambling but I just wanted to share....
Once again thanks, from a VERY grateful Jane xxxXXXxxx
