The 2006 New Rider new owners club that is....!!
My trainer emailed me before Easter to say that she knew of a cob to suit me, so I went to see him. Now, I have this real hang up about canter transitions in the school....I get very tense, lean forward and do all the things you shouldnt. But when I tried Pi i felt so safe I asked for and got a lovely canter on both reins - Woohoo!!! So my trainer looked him over and put him through his paces and the vet saw him today and HE ARRIVES ON FRIDAY!!!
Pi is a 15.2 piebald gelding, 10 years old and a real sweetheart. I messed up the pictures today (probably cos I was SOOOOO excited) but will take more on Friday and then work out how to get them here.
Am slightly (understatement) worried that I cant ride well enough/cant handle horses/wont be able to cope/am too old for all this, but I have fantastic support from the yard and trainer, so this is probably nonsense.
Am now aware I am rambling, so will shut up and view the online shops .....credit card already weary!!

I wouldnt worry about whether you are a good enough rider or not. Just learn to trust your horse and you can learn together. I am in my 5th yr and have had at least 6 RI's. They all are shocked at my cr*p riding. I wish I was a good rider. I really do but I just dont seem to get it. :( But I am having fun and I wouldnt change my life for the world.. :D Welcome to NR I am so excited for you. I cant wait to see your pictures on Friday. Bet you dont sleep on Thursday night and I bet the stable is cleaner than your house for the next month. :D ;)

Congratulations! And get that credit card ready, you're going to be swiping it so much it'll start on fire!
This board has been a lifesaver for me - welcome and I can't wait to see the pictures. In the U.S. we don't really see cobs, so I just love the pictures.

Oh that is so exciting!!! I can't wait to see some pictures of the gorgeous boy!
You might as well post up your boy on the original thread (it will be fun seeing all the horses bought at the end of the year): http://www.newrider.com/forum/showthread.php?t=74592&page=3&highlight=owners+club

Just want to say hope your new horse's arrival tomorrow goes well. Have your camera on hand because we will want to see him and hear about how it all goes. I am now picturing you standing watching the box arrival tomorrow shouting "It's The Pi!!! it's The Pi!!!" just like Sarah Brown in International Velvet!!!!! :D

Wow, brilliant! Today's the day! Good luck for his arrival!
As for your worries about coping, push them aside! You've got the support of some knowledgeable people, so I reckon you'll thoroughly enjoy the whole experience and you'll learn loads along the way. My riding is pretty dismal, but in my opinion its far more important that I am not a harsh rider, I treat Pumpkin with respect (as he does for me too), and am kind. I can stay on, and stay in control, and he knows what I'm asking for (most of the time) ;) A horse can't ask for much more than that. A top level showjumper or dressage lady I'll never be, but we are both more than happy so thats what counts :)
Pics as soon as he arrives please!!!

HE'S ARRIVED!!! Its 11.30 pm and I'm home and V V tired but....I have a horse - wonder when it will sink in?
Sorry but no pictures. By the time I got the camera out it was getting dark and the auto flash upset him a bit, so I stopped. Tomorrow, honest!
Pi doesnt box (but he will with patience) so the livery yard manager rode him back for me (only 10 mins!) as it was along a fast road. He happily mooched along for her and by the time they arrived at the yard he was working on the bit like a warmblood! Anky could not have asked for more!!
Everyone then left me alone to brush and cuddle to me hearts content. Then I put his pyjamas on and put him to bed. Trouble was I couldnt walk away, so I checked his tack (several times) outside his box to the happy sound of hay munching!!
How early can I go back tomorrow???
Thanks for all your good wishes .... you must have all gone through this - doesnt it feel good?
But spare a thought for his previous owner; she was very sad to see him go.
I'm off for a quick vino and bed.

Well what a day!! I have to confess that after quite a lot of G&T therapy, I have messed up my photobucket thingy and cant access it AND I HAVE PHOTOS too GRRRRRR!
Never mind, Pi is huggable, even if he did p**s off with me in a walk down the road, which must have been comic to anyone watching because I tripped over and body surfed along the verge!! Well, I wasnt about to let go of my horse, was I???
This is a learning curve, I keep telling myself. Poor chap is kept in whilst being wormed (yard rules, - entirely reasonable) so needed to stretch his legs, and he doesnt know me yet, so I shall have to be a bit firm with him this week (well, I'll try!).
Bath tomorrow, and a quiet groom to make up for today. Photos following, really and truly!!
