We moved him, on Saturday, to a new yard in (sort of) walking distance. Liz and her boyfriend led Dexter over, and we followed with everything else in the car.
We have a box for him, but at the mo he's been turned out into their herd system. There's a winter grazing field, two turnout fields, a jumping field and a huge field where the horses have formed into a herd. It's around 100 acres, I'd say. He thinks he's found heaven, and I wish I'd put him there from the start.
The intention was to bring him in at night, but because of the way they keep moving over a large area, I'm less worried about him getting laminitis, so he's stayed out, especially as it has been mild. He's made at least two good friends and been put in his place by the head mare!
We're slowly getting there with making a bond with him. Two nights ago, Liz brought him up to the box and he pratted around, so we went back to the start and just approached/retreated in the field. He's back to being happy to come up to us, and tonight followed OH and me back to the gate, where he waited around to "chat" and say goodbye. At least I don't think he's viewing us as jailers any more.
