Hi, I havent posted on this section before but reading all the posts I think I fit in more than the other sections!! I have booked my first riding lesson on my new horse, when I say first, I mean literaly first for hmmmmm....about 28 years!!!!! I am really nervous - I am a confident rider usually, but Oscar is testing my skills, and I am hugely aware that I have NO technical abilities what so ever! Oh dear, what have I done! I will post tomorrow night, and let you all know what awful habits I have and how terrible I was! I also need to teach him to jump before Monday's hunt fun ride!!! help!!!!!!

Dont worry Lucy...give it some time.... I know I am giving you this advice, but I am a bit of a jittery rider myself...

But we all go through it regardless of being able to ride or starting out....
I'm sure you will do great! Keep us posted! :)

good luck with it Lucyad - think you are kind of brave/mad going on the hunt thingy, though:eek:
Oh that dreaded lesson after 28 years - polish your brass neck sweetheart!

Just go along and tell the instructor that's the case - he/she should be able to work out where you need the help.

Enjoy it :)

Hi! Back from lesson - it wasnt scarey at all! Didn't help that Oscar was being a big plod, and saying 'oh the sun is killing me - I cant possibly trot never mind canter!!!' He is usually quite forward going but.....RI was lovely and said my riding was fine:D and not holding him back at all, so concentrated on Oscar. We did 20m circles diagonals and leg yeild! RI said Oscar had lots of potential, and that he was well worth the money, and that he could get him going lovely in about 6-7 weeks then start jumping. He rekoned that then we could be jumping really quickly as he is fine over poles (had to go over a few ground poles today that were demarking parts of the school). So I am really pleased, though it was a shame RI didnt see him acting to true potential, as he was being such a plod. Have booked another one for next weekend, and RI says he will be fine to take to hunt ride and pop over a few jumps following other horses, but he wants to get him working to an outline and collecting before jumping in the school.

I have lots more confidence now, due both to the plodd like behaviour and kind words for instructor! Way hey!!!
