Remis has had his grazing muzzle on for a couple of weeks now and already we have had to replace 12 straps:eek: .I had some spares from last year and Shires are great sending out free straps but its useless to keep replacing them if hes just going to break them off again.I was thinking of tying it on with baling twine but am worried about safety, has anyone done this?We tried a Best Friends one but he ripped the bottom out of it within 5 minutes by rubbing his face on the floor and wall(the stable block backs onto the field).Up till now we,ve had no problems with the Greenguard so any ideas would be appreciated.

how about pet collars? when bonnie broke one of the straps on her greenguard, mum went out and bought a cheap cat collar. does the job ok. i'd be dubious about baler twine, particularly after DavidH's experience with it (it didn't break).

Good idea eventerbabe,I would have never have thought of that.I suppose cos they are elasticated in some collars then that would let them stretch abit. Its well worth a try. Thanks:D

My pony did the same, forever breaking the straps and getting it off. I bought a shires soft muzzle and he hardly ever gets that off and hasn't managed to break any of it, what's more it was only £16!

1I have just bought a greenguard grazing muzzle for my daughter's 12.2 New Forest. She is just recovering from Laminitis and I had thought about if the straps broke, so I bought some material spur straps and they are nice and soft of the pony's face so I have changed them from the original ones that were on...not expensive either

A few of the smaller ponies on my yard wear Greenguards and they're all tied on with baling twine, hasn't caused any problems in the 4yrs I've been there.
