Hi,I could anyone give me some advice on how to use lysol for treatment of thrush and white line disease.Could I use it in a soaker boot ? if so for how long ? would it harm the horse if it gets on the skin? etc.
Is there any reason why and when not to use it /suitable alternatives?
Thanks

Hi there. My horse is barefoot and developed a little WLD over the winter. My trimmer recommended a 1 part in 10 concentration of Milton sterilising fluid (you know, the stuff that's used for sterilising babys' bottles). I just scrubbed it on once a week and it got rid of it very quickly. For thrush she recommends Sudocrem (though I've never had to use it). The beauty of both of these products is that they are extremely gentle.

Household bleach 50%/50% with water is as good as anything, don't put a boot on, just scrub the feet with a stiff brush and bleach. Wear gloves though.

It's one specific type of lysol that you need to use, one concentrated one has some phenol related nasties in, so make sure you have the right one. I remember it's used very diluted but can't remember the exact dilution. Think you can use it for soaking. Someone on the barefoot forum at www.enlightenedequitation.com should be able to tell you as some people on there have used it.
