Hi
I have a new mare who is a bit headshy, but once you get the headcollar on her she is much better. I have been stroking and touching her face as much as I can and have just noticed something. Just above her top lip she has what I can only describe as something the length of a cocktail stick, one at each side. I thought perhaps this is cartiledge or sinew or something, but I have never noticed it on any other horses I have been with. Please can someone tell me if this is normal or not, I am starting to worry now. Also she does a lot of "laughing" curling up her top lip.

If it is symetrical (same on both sides) I would think it would be normal for her. Since it is something you are concerned about, however, I would have it checked the next time the vet is out in your area.

Hi
Thanks for that. My daughter had her usual weekly lesson today and I went along the line of stables examining all the horses. They all had the same thing. I just think our horse's is a bit more prominent.! I'm sure it must be normal, but I will ask my vet when he comes to do her injections.
