Question in the title really :) The horse I'm looking at has had a splint in the past too, but he's fine now.

Wouldn't necessarily put me completely off but I would get a vetting done if I was considering buying.

As long as you realise that they need very careful management (regular and long periods of turnout, my mare has suffered from tying up in the past and I always religiously turn her out before riding and for as long as is possible throughout the day) and feeding ( eg. a high fibre, low protein and low starch diet) then it should be fine.

hmmm, it depends, some tying up is due to bad manage ment, some horses are just prone to it. He might have been on an endurance ride where this is not uncommon and it happens, as long as it has been treated promptly there should be no problems.

I'd want to know the kidney function from a blood test though.

The tying up wouldnt stop me from bying at all, it is a feeding/working problem that you could prevent, but the splint would tough... But if the splintproblem is ordely cured, I would by the horse if I really liked it, BUT if you are unsure about the facts of tying up, be ware of the problems that might come.
