Hi all,
I have taken ownership of a 2 year old gelding (newly gelded on tuesday) bay Welsh section A pony.

Down side.. is he's a rescued pony from the meat market! :(

He is really under weight and was rescued by the RI / Yard manager. who i must say is great and has given me loads of and I have a great RI/Yard manager who has given me loads of advice and mixed his food to go along with his hay.

He has runny eyes and I was wondering how you all would treat them?
I washed them (different cotton wool for each eye) with salt water today to start the process while I looked into it.

Also what vitamins / minerals would you suggest to improve his condition as rapidly as we can.

James has recommended tea bags (used) on his eyes and a general supplement for a youngster, but wondered if you had any recommendations.

Thanks all!

Golden Eye drops or Brolene drops from the pharmacy work well. Golden Eye is best, less ouchy for the horse. Don't tell them you're buying it for a horse though!!

I don't know about eye drops, but you might find his eyes improve as he's looked after if you just remove the gunk like you have been doing. Thats unless its something like conjuntivitis...

We recently took on two colts that are a little...low, for want of a better word! The first thing we did was get the vet out to give them both a full health check, get any treatment they needed ( one had a cough) and get advice on worming, feeding and anything else! Thats what I would do in your position, if you havent already:)

Thanks all. :)
his eyes seem better this morning, a tiny bit of stickyness but still in the eye so easily cleaned and hopefully improving! :D

the RI/YO rescued Peanuts last monday and vet saw him that day. Also on the tuesday to geld him. He has just finished his anti-biotics and other than nicks out of his hooves and his weight he seems fine.

He seemed a lot brighter this morning and really friendly so that's good. He's got a great character considering what he's been through.
