Hi,
as usual I am left to sort out the turnout of both horse and rider as hubbie is too lazy to bother. Would a canaryish shirt look weird on a man? His breeches are a yellowy beige and the tweed is greenish. A white shirt looks awful.
Secondly, hubbie will not trim or pull. The animal is not a full lusitano, but he wants it to have a long mane to its shoulder. The youngster is lusitano x tb x irish. Mane looks a mess loose. Am considering running plait to give him more topline or a halflinger lattice plait. It is too long to plait conventionally, but may be too short for the aforementioned. As the tail is unpulled, I was going to plait it. He`s just going to do youngstock etc. Any suggestions apart from shooting him??? (hubbie, not horse!)

I'd go for cream, or perhaps a shirt with a red or yellow pinstripe? Bit more manly :p

For showing really you either need proper plaits or none at all! As the horse is a youngster is he adverse to just pulling to neaten the ends? You don't need to take any length off, just level it a bit and take out the straggly hairs. This could even be done with a solo comb so no pulling at all is required.

If the horse has a loose mane then it should have a full tail, although a bit of bandaging would make this neater at the top. If you plait the mane then the tail can be plaited for youngsters, although pulling is more correct in general for when the horse is older.

You could try thirteen proper plaits in the mane (plus the forelock) and see how you get on. If they are quite chunky they'll give the illusion of more topline. Just do them as tight as possible and if the mane isn't too long you should be ok :)

what colours the horse and what class is it going to be in?Pale blue is quite common for men looks great on darks i.e bays chesnuts etc otherwise a light beige creamy colour would prob look good or as daffy said a pinstripe.what coour tie have you got?
p.s id get that mane puled and plait it properly!as im sure you know an unpulled mane is only acceptable on natives/arabs.(if he objects, just do it when hes not about-eg at work or similar!!:-)

Hi,
the horse is steel grey. I`ve found a beige type shirt and green tie. The shirt isn`t quite correct, but it will do. He showjumps, so he is only putting baby into showing classes for experience. Frustratingly on my part, he doesn`t give a jot about turnout and he would hit the roof if I pulled his mane. He`s got this daft obsession about long hair and I think it is carrying through to the horse! Last time he did this, he even told the judge that he was only doing it because he had some time to spare! (wasn`t meaning to be rude) - could have killed him!!!!!! When it is long enough, he intends to jump it in a running plait:confused:

It's fine for youngstock to be unplaited, so ignoring the fact that plaited is neater, might as well leave him to it. Maybe he'll get hooked and then decide to do it properly ;)
