I have a 13.2 welshie, I'm 35 5'3 and about 9 1/2 stone I love to ride her as she is great fun but get comments like wouldn't you rather a bigger horse.... Well No is the answer. My OH has a 15.2 TBx which I love but I just rather ride a pony, I think it goes back to my childhood when I had so much fun with my aunts pony.

Anyway just thought I would share that with you Pony loving people. It just makes me feel better to know there are more like me!

I adore my 15.2 ex racehorse and really enjoy the time I spend riding him, but sometimes I do think "I wish I had a pony to bomb around on and have a laugh with". I rode Jake for my dad last night, and had such a good time on him. Riding Salsa often feels very formal and "worklike" so I decided to just have some fun with Jacob. We had a little canter in the school, and trotted all the way around the "Loop" (a circular bridleway on our farm's land), chased some pheasants :p and generally had a lot of fun. With Sal being more excitable and prone to spooking, it was really nice to be able to have a change and be a kid on horseback again! It did feel rather strange, as I really only ride Sal, so getting on Jake, who is much broader, made me feel like a pea on an ironing board! I was so close to the ground and didn't have a big bay head stuck up in front of me - Jake tends to carry his head much lower and has far less neck!

my mum is 40-odd (she'd kill me if i revealed her exact age!) and more than happy pootling about on our 13.3hh welsh. she's absolutely no desire for anything bigger, no matter how safe the horse might be!

Hi Madison's girl, I also ride my daughters 12.2 New Forest pony, I have 5ft 4 and 8 stone and I hack her out and having started jumping her ready for when my daughter grows and gets a little stronger. I have had horses in the past but its my daughters turn now and it's nice we can share her. My daughter is 8.

Hi Trace, having met the gorgeous Shandy I am sure you would look fine together. I am 5'5", a good deal heavier than you and my Icey Gydja carries me no problems. Some people have been a bit sniffy about me riding her but Gydja is happy and I feel really comfy so whats the problem? It isn't until people try riding her that they find out just how wonderful she is there first comments always being she doesn't ride like a pony!
