I think white bandages look very smart, especially on a dark horse.
Have fun :)

White wraps look very snazzy on dark colored horses, though if you were going to a show I would check with the judge or show manager about using them because they can be very picky and some shows will dock points from your score. Some judges don't like anything on a horse's legs. For a clinic it should be fine though. Good Luck!

boots or bdanges aren't allowed in the actual ring - you'll get eliminated. all are fine for warming up or clinics though.

Im the same as Ditz, id love to put some on but darent but in any case i mainly go on my own to competitions so couldnt get them off unless some nice person helped!!!!!!
They look really smart for clinics but for dressage no boots are allowed in the arena.

especially when you're doing 2 tests, just too much of a faff isnt it?

why would you not be brave enough to wear them at a show? i'm confused! i always put them on my little fluffy pony - i like to try and make us blend in slightly (as much as you can on a 15hh palomino welsh cob at affiliated elementary!). can never be arsed to put them back on for the 2nd warmup though - too lazy!

My dark bay (see avator) always wears white bandages for lessons/clinics. It allows the instructor to see his legs clearly if if is dark/late evening/at an indoor venue. Don't be scared to put them on! I always look like untidy (bordering on tramp-like) in my lessons but I make sure Cossack looks good!

forgot about this subject! I did actually try and put them on at a recent comp - he went beserk! Clearly doesnt like white boots! He span around and splashed in the muddy puddles before I took them off again - no need to stress a horse out just before a competition!
Problem is I cant return the boots now:( . Will have to wear them in at home and get him used to them first!

I think they look fab but do think they only get used to make people look god. Don't think they are really necessary. And they are a faff. I say white boots are easier and can still look as good

i save my white bandages for the posh shows. they come out at regionals, winter semi's, area festivals etc. never got round to them at the winter champs which was a good thing coz then they were clean for the prize-giving! of course they're only there to make you look good, but hey, what's wrong with that?

There is method in the madness at competitions - white boots on a dark horse mean that you don't forget to take them off before you go in the ring.
Peri always wears whites, Tavia (who is grey) always wears black.
For clinics I like jazzy colours - will confess to having some snuggy hoods sets - Peri has blue ones with sheep on, Tavia's are lilac with paw-prints on :D

I must admit I resisted white bandages for a long time, thinking them a bit too 'look at me' but my instructor finally insisted when he could no longer see me and Cossack down the other end of the school on dark winter nights. I have a variety of other coloured bandages for everyday use (going for yellow next) and he only wears the white ones for lessons/clinics so not that often.

Lgd and Jamey, I think you've just given me two very good reasons why I should invest in some white boots (which I've been hankering after for a while...) :D

I want a full set of white equilibrium flatwork wraps, save them for show warmups/hacking to shows as we can't do dressage :D
But before then, I need a set of leather brushing or tendon and fetlock boots for working hunter classes.

mmm. I bought a full set of those and after only being worn twice they rubbed a hole the size of a 5p where my horse had brushed in them. I sent them back and replaced them with a pair of cliff barnsbys which have a stronger strike pad on the inside. I wouldnt recommend the equilibrium ones especially given how expensive they were (£35 a pair as I recall).

I'm a little confused. Are we talking wearing white bandages at a clinic as opposed to some other color while schooling? Is this a purely aesthetic question?
Bandages serve a purpose. We wear bangages every time we ride because Ms. Thang sometimes clunks herself and I don't want her to remember the pain of that clunk and hesitate the next time I ask her to do something. This is especially important when doing lateral work because of the increased risk of the horse clunking itself.
That's why we wear bandages while schooling - not because it's pretty. Of course I have 3 different color wraps, and I always try to match the pad color and the wrap color. So aesthetics still comes into play ;).
If my girl didn't clunk herself ever, I wouldn't ever bother with bandages. They're a pain in the --- :p.

Some folk (incl. myself) are wary of WHITE bandages in particular cos they can interpreted as being a little bit pretentious and for those at the higher end of disciplines. :D
It's not a discussion about bandages in general just the white variety and the preconceptions people have about them.

Sorry, the first time I read the thread I got the impression that people didn't normally use the wraps but would use them for a clinic.
I just re-read the thread with the idea that people used them in schooling and were asking the question about using white at a clinic... made sense now :o
Around our area, color doesn't make a difference, a wrap is a wrap, regardless of color.
If you're going to use wraps at a clinic though, they should be white or black - the tradition of conservative colors I guess. White is stunning on a dark horse, especially with a white pad.
