Went out on a hack tonight in company. Talk about Jekyl and Hyde tonight. Captain was initially soo laid back I had to get the companion to ride in front of us so then it became a game of catchup. This way my little heart wasnt going ten to the dozen to keep Captain going. All was well until we got to a scary man with a hose pipe. Power walked past him and sideways.. Then we fought our way through the village past all the scary monsters. Honestly he was supposed to be the well behaved ploddy cob I bought. But oh no he showed me up by acting like a teenager rebelling. Jumping about all over the place. Whilst the green young arab chestnut mare at the side of us didnt batter an eyelid. Then we were on the way home not even worried about all the scary monsters when he came up to the dreaded plastic sheeting on the fields. He hates these. Snorting jumping and just by magic a pigeon flew out of the tree above us. One sec flat and the arab had spun round with Captain hot on her tail. My friend shouting "Pull Back Now??" I said "I am". No really I pulled him back and he nicely came back to trot I nearly got him turned around in trot but still strong and pigheaded. As I walked back round, my friend said "Look at you smiling if he had done that 6 months ago you would of been shaking". I dont know what I has happened but I am not bothered by his silly bolting now. I just know I have a lot of back up plans to get him to listen to me and slow up. I only got to Plan B tonight to get him back. :D

Yeah well done NN. :D

You are obviously trusting him more and he is listening to you - gosh it takes time doesn't it? But it is worth it!:D

Yee hah!

Well done, what a lovely feeling, knowing you have some sort of control makes hacking much more fun. Guess part of it is he's trusting you more too, which is nice.

That's great - well done. Sounds like you handled it perfectly. It does get easier doesn't it?

Fab stuff, NN! I'm envious of your coping-ness and hope I'll reach that stage. I'm already not too fazed when HQ starts jogging and 'looking' when we pass the chickens or whatever; I used to freeze up and sort of crawl up her neck, making her worse!
When I was a kid, I absolutely loved it when the pony bolted, everyone shouting turn him ROUND, but me enjoying the rush:eek:

When he bolted last Summer I really did think I was going to die. :o But the other week my Dad towed my car into the garage. 45mph and creeping up only on a tow rope's length, no brakes or steering power. Then I realised I was going to die. I went all weka and shaky. It came over me that there are worse fears than a gallop in the wrong direction. So I think that in a way my Dad has helped me. Just not keen on the way he did it. My daughter rang him up and said " Mum said can Grandad slow down now Mum is going to pass out!!!"..

Well done Nic! You're an inspiration as usual... I'm not sure I'd be smiling if I got carted, no matter what speed or for how long *shudders* it's my worst nightmare!

Sounds like you handled it brilliantly!:D
