Take no notice Sparklie, its about enjoying yourself and staying within your confort zone, don't let people like that push you to do anything your not happy with. If I were you I wouldn't be riding out with them again.

I don't think I will be Kath.
I bought Twig as a confidence giver and that's just what he is...he's built my confidence fantastically in the last 6 months and in another 6 months...well maybe I'll be feeling a little braver still

Gosh I don't know how you managed to hold your tongue!! I would just tell them to pee off! There's more to riding and horse ownership than charging around jumping big cross-country fences. Your pony has given you heaps of confidence doing what you do, and if you don't want to jump it's totally up to you.

Hear hear! What thoughtless people, just ignore their little comments. It's what you and Twig do together that you're happy with that counts.

You must be so patient not to have said anything. I'd have told them to p*** off right at the start. Take not a shred of notice. If they want to be reckless and fall off and break their necks - good luck to them!! Don't go out with them again.

I agree with everyone else. I to am terrified of jumping following a bad fall. I ride on a lesson with a lot of experienced riders and never has any critised me for not jumping or only doing the small jumps. Just ignore them, which I know is easier said than done. You and Twig are there to enjoy yourselves too. If they are going to have that attitude, just tell them you would rather not ride with them again.
Well done you for doing that local show. That was a great acheivement.:D

Grrr!!! Let me at 'em.... I'll get 'em for you!!!
I HATE it when people belittle others' achievements...Leave them well alone Sparklie... You know about my fear of heights when jumping - if anyone said anything to me I would bite their head off! We all ride for fun and enjoyment and these people made you feel small and incompetent. I say stuff 'em.... sounds like you did well to recognise your and Twig's limitations.... could have had a nasty outcome. Well done you for sticking to your guns
(and don't ride with them again

Well done you for not ending up being pushed into jumping something you didn't want to. :) There are no hard and fast rules to owning a horse....you do what you want with your horse....no one but no one can tell you otherwise. If you only want to walk 10 mins round in a circle 5 days a week who gives a hoot. IT'S YOUR HORSE AND YOUR LIFE.....
I have yet to see a horse complaining that it's owner cares about it and themselves but have seen a few whose owners pushed their horses beyond what they were capable of without (in my opinion) cruelty in an attempt to impress. Makes me so so cross.
Come out with me, next to me you will soon feel like you are the best rider in the country lol. Do I care? not on your life....

Oh good for you sticking to your guns and not pindypandying (another one for the dictionary?) to their scathing remarks :D
Always remember this: Idiots (polite version of what I wanted to put) who show off like that are there for a reason; to reinforce how sane, pleasant and sensible the rest of us are... works doesn't it?

I think the problem is theirs, they are the stupid ones not you.Sooner or later they're going to have a nasty fall if they charge about like idiots. I dread to think of the damage they could cause their horses, at least yours is likely to end up with all his legs intact & if you keep doing the little jumps you're sure to build up to bigger things just ignore the silly ill mannered brigade,:)

Good for you for not giving in to them. That's why Falcon and me always go out on our own (well round the farm). Sadly, because I live on the coast and work in London I dont really get an awful lot of time to ride in the evenings, so all my riding's done w/es. Sometimes I see the other owners but more often than not, we're on our own. Anyway, he's good on his own and we like it that way. There's a large grass school at the top of the farm with new show jumps and it's really good. A colleague on foot usually comes with me and we can put the jumps up There's a scary neighbour though sometimes doing his garden which Falcon doesn't seem to like.:D

glad i'm not the only one that likes it that way afellpony :)
I think I might take Twig up to the jumping field again later this week and pop him round a few small fences. but I will be doing it in my own time, at a height that I'm happy with and without a scathing (sp?) audience

Can't add any more to Imp's comment really, except to add my complete support. What a pair of 88&&&$$$  !
I have my very unconfident patches (had one the other day in fact:o )and would have done exactly what you did, except jump the log:o Leave them to their stupid ways. You did right.:)
