My first local show is coming up....I'm sorted with what I'm going to wear etc except......advice please........brown Dublin Canberra jacket, I just can't afford another hat before the show and the one I have is black....how about getting a brown velvet for my skull (or is that an absolute no no) or just go with the black hat (it's a normal peak style one) - thanks for your ideas!!

i would go with either a navy velvet scull, or if it is a very small show the black hat.

If you were buying a hat I'd say get Navy with the view to changing the jacket at a later date, but as it is I'd stick with the black.
Black does go with this jacket better than navy, and a black peaked hat will look a lot better than a jockey skull, no matter what the colour of the silk. :)

Welshcobz I am in the same boat as you I have a black hat. I was gonna ask the same question :D
I have no choice but to wear my black as I cant afford to buy a blue one I just hope they dont mark me down for it

Unless you're in best turned out and the only difference between you and another competitor is the hat colour it won't really matter. It just looks better to have navy, although I did have a reasonably successful season (ie two shows!) with a black hat and the same jacket as welshcobz. At local level I'm not sure how many judges really know the nitty gritty of it all anyway.
