I have 13.3 hh Welsh/Standardbred mix and just bought a Circle Y "Producer" barrel saddle for him as he is short backed and it has a skirt that is only 23" long. I am now looking for a good saddle pad and would like some recommendations. I have looked on the internet only as there aren't stores near me (Minnesota) that carry good brands. I am considering the Professional Choice Charmayne James barrel pad because it is only 28" long. I read some comments that owners of this pad thought it was too thin. They were barrel racers, which I am not (pleasure riding for me). Any one know anything about this pad or any recommendations on other quality pads? Thanks

Can't help at all with western but I'd just like to say - welsh x Standardbred - ooo, nice mix :D I'm a massive STB fan. But it must have been a small welsh ;)
ANd welcome to the board. There will hopefully be some useful western people along in a minute.:D

Hi there professional choce pads are always a favorite of myn. I believe twetny-x carries a nice pad that is relatively short. Charymayne James Pad fit my horse nicely (14h arab) and I find it the perfect thickness(and it wicks away moisture nicely) Also suppliers often will make pony pads, google it:) Ill list some also below. Good Luck!

Thanks for your advice about the saddle pad. I ordered the Pro Choice barrel saddle pad from one of your links... found out they also were offering free shipping as well and the price was the best I have found.
Thanks, Pink's Lady, for your comments about my pony mix. I don't know anything about the size of his parents but he is really a sturdy well built horse and very smart. He was previously owned by an Amish family and was used to pull children to school in a buggy; besides being ridden. I haven't tried using him to drive though. I taught him to neck rein and he caught on very quickly. Thanks again. I hope I like the saddle pad!

Hey, you know how the western person was mentioned in the first reply? She's here! lol, couldn't resist! I'm new here, my name is Sami-any way.
I got an excilent barrel racing pad, for quarter horses, but I seriously have no clue about what sort of place would carry the sort of pad your looking for. Sorry I couldn't have been a bigger help! Sami- or Shia
