Dear boy, Isn't he a softie!

Mind you, I have yet to meet the Fjord that isn't. They are all big softies.

Fjords and Icelandics tend not to get up the minute they see you like a lot of horses, they are quite happy to chill and let you cuddle them while they have a kip.

As yet I have no Spring Fjord pics, Must get shoes back on Kina and get some driving miles this summer.

What a great face on your horse! I looked at Fjords before buying a Haflinger, the prices were so high on Fjords (and Icelandics) my husband would have balked.

Thanks for the compliments ( :) ) <--- Happy Owner. Yeah Wally they do seem a little content to just lay there and relax don't they. In the photo I had asked him to lay down. HE's purdy good about that. I always make sure were in good soft footing when I ask him to do it. He usually flops out after pawing around in a couple of spots to find the bestest spot of course, usually where theres some grass so he can eat while he's that much closer to it!

He was the easiest ever to train a cue for laying down. I think it only took like one 35 minute session and he had it. Best thing of all was the method involved no force what so ever and it was all his idea, or so he thinks. These guys (Ponies and Fjords) really keep you on your toes in the training dept. It seems like all the old standard training techniques I'd learned when I was a little younger don't seem to work quite as well with these guys. You really have to out think them. My guy almost seems to respond better to a verbal cue than a physical one, I almost feel like were having a conversation. I get the feeling he's usually just humoring me and waiting for me to figure out the proper (pony) way for me to ask him to do what I'm contemplaiting. At least he's patient! Sometimes I think he believes he's smarter than me, well horses probably are after all were the ones that have to work to support them and I don't see them running around with a fork cleaning up our stalls.:D

TAke care and happy hacking everyone.:)

How right you are! try shoving a Fjord about and you'll fail big time!

I remember a friend thinking she could stop Kina coming into the indoor school just by shoving her in the chest! I nearly died laughing, I still chuckle when the mental image of a person, spreadeagled on the chest of a Fjord, feet off the ground, arms around her neck, being carried at a swift trot into the indoor school! If she'd have simply said "Kina, BACK!" it would have worked.

We are currently training her daughter, she's 3 this year and is just starting her work. I hope to be sitting on her by Sept. and doing one or two cart trips by then too. Then turn her away for winter and beging proper in spring again.
