How do you mean your leather one is too heavy for her? Have you had her back checked?
Sarah-B
13th May 2006, 09:04 PM
I'm a bit confused - surely if a pony is finding a saddle too heavy then you shouldn't be riding her at all?!!
*shooting*star*
14th May 2006, 12:31 PM
Look......i said that her saddle is heavy not TOO heavy!
she is getting a bit old and im like 9stone or whatever and that is on top of that......and now we have started competing properly the saddle is weighing her down and no i have not had her back checked but i might get the vet in and check her over but she is in superb condition:D i ride her every night and she is fit as can be! its just the saddle weighs about a stone or just under - even my mum (dollylady0) said so........
Sarah-B
14th May 2006, 12:36 PM
That still doesn't make any sense at all, if a saddle is (and I quote) "weighing her down" then there must be something that needs to be sorted in her back - have you had it checked?

13yrs is NOT old! Nor is 9st heavy for a 14.1 pony.
But if you want a synthetic, you need to have it fitted just the same as you would with a leather saddle. A badly fitted saddle can do horrible and permenet damage to the horses back and then weight of the saddle will be the least of you're problems.
Synthetic saddles are NOT a 'one size fits all'. Many of them have design faults/difference which make cartain brands unsuitable for certain horses.
Before you ask if any one has a synthetic for sale (I have 5 for that I might sell!) you need to find of what size and shape.
its a exellent saddle in perfect condition but its just heavy for my 13 year old mare......she cant handle it!!!!!!!!!
The more improtant question is DOES IT FIT? And unless you have a heavy western saddle, the weight is negliable. My WOW saddle IS a VERY heavy saddle (weight nearly 2st  poor Brodie!) but it's a perfect fit and therefore ideal.

14th May 2006, 12:47 PM
LOOK IM ONLY 14!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MY MUM SAID IT IS TOO HEAVY FOR HER AND WE ARE JUST TRYING TO FIND A BLOOMING SADDLE!!!!!!!AND LIKE I SAID NO WE HAVE NOT HAD HER BLOOMING BACK CHECKED!!!I HAVE JUST GOT HOME FROM A SHOW!
nessa
14th May 2006, 12:49 PM
i have a synthetic saddle for sale but thats no use because i am in australia.
your mare should be able to handle the saddle if it fits her properly and spreads the weight over her back evenly, what does she do that makes you think the saddle is too heavy? she might just be telling you that it dosent fit her properly and is uncomfortable. 13 is not old! my horse is turning 21 and hes still going strong:) mabey you should just get a saddle fitter out to look at you saddle on your mare as it may not fit her that well if she's showing discomfourght, he might be able to ajust it to fit and it will save on buying another saddle, or he may have a saddle that you can bye that fits properley and fit it to your horse so you know that its the right fit;)

14th May 2006, 12:51 PM
No body in there right mind is going to sell you a saddle if you don't know the size (and especially with that attitude  ) Poor pony.
Saddles MUST fit and it's obvious you don't know how to, so no, nobody's going to have a saddle for you.
*shooting*star*
14th May 2006, 12:52 PM
pink lady or whatever your name is i know the size of her saddle and whatever im NOT thick you know!!!!and i have been riding since i was 2 years old so i do know what im doin.....all i want to know is whether i can get a saddle for sale!!!
nessa
14th May 2006, 12:58 PM
i dont think you need to be so rude were just trying to help!
its very important for the saddle to fit properly, the weight of the saddle should not matter if the saddle fits well and spreads the weight evenly, it sounds more like a fitting issue than the weight of the saddle to me.
*shooting*star*
14th May 2006, 12:58 PM
to be honest i dont want an arguement or nothing......all i want is a new saddle for my pony.......and the reason im selling my new/old one is because it IS heavy and she has NO withers for it to be supported on........and yes i know 13 is NOT old........
*shooting*star*
14th May 2006, 12:59 PM
The saddles weight is spreaded evenly.........
Like i said she doesnt have much of withers for it to go around its all flubber:P......:D
*shooting*star*
14th May 2006, 01:04 PM
oh and one more thing my new/old saddle weighs alot about a stone or under:eek:!!
so you are saying it doesnt weigh that much???
its make is 'something & griffin'lol i cant remember
Pink's lady
14th May 2006, 01:04 PM
Obviously as you know SOOOOOO much about saddles ;), what size and type are you looking for? 17" means nothing. What width? what shape do the panels need to be? how wide a gullet does it need? Does the front need to be lifted or lower or is a 'general' saddle perfectly balanced. Does she have a flat-back, a 'normal' back or a curved back. Wide surface behind the withers, or quite narrow. Wide spinal process or narrow.
And you're well on you way to getting yourself banned so I'd be careful what you say  ;)
*shooting*star*
14th May 2006, 01:07 PM
i dont know.....:D

In which case you don't know what you're talking about, so you need to go find out before you ask for a saddle.

girls come on, we know this is madness but remember she's only 14, perhaps its the mother that needs these comments.
SS - the saddle you got is significantly different in size to what you were asking for (9 inches wide instead of 8) and so it worries that its unlikely to actually fit properly.
But like I said thats not really your fault.
*shooting*star*
14th May 2006, 02:12 PM
yeh but i have rode her in it.............and she went really well and we came 1st in it...a lucky saddle..tehe!:D

chickflick1066
14th May 2006, 05:21 PM
I hope your horse is ok in the saddle. Just to be on the safe side can you get the saddler to check it out for you?
*shooting*star*
14th May 2006, 07:36 PM
I rode in it to see what the saddle was like and i went to the show with hannah who i bought the saddle off and My Mum said she might buy it unless we bought one off from ebay or off here......
As soon as we got home from the show we got a saddle fitter to come to our farm and see whether it is the right size for her and it is a lovely fit for her....1st one that actually does fit her properly......:D :) :D :) :D :) :D

Shooting star - do your self a favour, and be quiet. You are confusing us and yourself. People are not silly on NR, and its blatently easy to see that what your saying is far from the truth. You CANNOT need a saddle thats wide and 9inch, and then buy a medium with 8 inches. It WILL be a bad fit, and will cause your pony back problems. Please dont use capitals to get your msg across, people can read, and dont get mad, because your caught out. Now lets just start over again, your only new, and im such you could benefit from NR, but your going to get no help at all with an attitude like that.
I would advise getting your pony's back checked at least once a year, if not every 6 months, just be on the safe side anyway, and to say your not or have not got her back checked, is ignorance on your part.

Leave my Daughter alone will you??? We have bought her a new saddle and thats it...
She is having a hard time at the minute...
Tink!
18th May 2006, 05:12 PM
DollyLady...No One's picking on your daughter or being nasty! She getting herself very confused, as she keeps changing her answer's! Also its a bit irresponisble to put a wrong sized saddle on a pony, and ride in it, when you both blatantly know it's a wrong fit!

I'm sorry to say it..
But its that time of year again... Half term in some places...
Lil Me
22nd May 2006, 10:11 PM
crikey!!!! 13 is no way near old for a horse and if it is 'struggling' to carry a saddle then no one should be riding it! and def a back specialist should examine the poor pony! and by buying a saddle which is too narrow will not do the pony any good at all! my horses back and all 3 saddles are checked every 6 months and my lad is older than yours and still happily jumping and competing and riding in a western saddle which is considerably heavier than an english saddle! a horse must have a saddle which fits, end of!
only irrisponsible owners buy a saddle without it being properly fitted!
I just hope for the ponies sake that the saddle does fit!

People are just concerned Shooting Star, they only want the best for you and your pony - no-one on here wants you to come on in X amount of time saying you have to sell her because she started bucking you off due to a badly fitting saddle or something, and no-one wants her to be in pain.
*shooting*star*
23rd May 2006, 06:06 PM
ino
but we are riding in it and she is perfectly fine...we still have her other saddle and realized that it was too big for her on her withers and that is why we were having trouble and we are now starting to go affiliated and i think this saddle is working wonders for me and her!...:) :D :)  :p ;)
Tink!
24th May 2006, 09:00 AM
OH for heavens sake shooting star. your being ridiculous.
No concerned rider, would tell us her ponies saddle size, and then buy one that was the wrong size, and then say it fits..... People are not stupid, we can see your being silly. No one is being Nasty, but FHS just start over again. If you do 'actually' go affliated, i advise getting your ponies back checked, even if YOU dont think she needs a check up, she could have under lying problems that cant be seen with the naked eye....
Lil Me
24th May 2006, 11:11 AM
were all only trying to help you my sweet! ** just not listening!
the fact u said your leather saddle was too heavy for a 13 year old like she was old implies to me that u must have been having problems with her! I would get her checked out if i was u!
My lad had a mctimmony guy out to see him and there was nothing wrong with his back but his neck and pelvis needed some work! its not always the back!
If she is struggling to carry a saddle then there has to be summet wrong!
no one on here is aiming to offend you but just trying to help!
please get her checked out and a saddle fitter! you wouldnt run in shoes that didnt fit now would you???

8th Jun 2006, 09:41 PM
Just a quick question...can saddles be adjustable? Bc I have a western saddle that i use to ride 2 fo my horses with, both are different sizes but they have no problem with the saddle at all. And i do "adjust" it differently for them. lol. I'm not too expreicened in the whole saddle area.
EDIT: We sold one of the horses, but i was just wondering in case of ever getting another horse.
Pink's lady
8th Jun 2006, 09:46 PM
 you use the same saddle on two totally different sized backs? poor horses. Especially western saddles, which have to be a perfect fint since they have no soft padding that can change shape a little to accomidate.
This isn't the right place for it. If you post this again in the proper area (i.e General) there will be a lot more replies.
