This is Daffy in his newer show bridle and bit;

Think it suits him? Should I use the (1/8th") thinner noseband?

And this is his belly. Is it worth going next weekend bearing in mind I know he is overweight and he wont lose much during the week?

Ignore his face-pulling, he was eating an apple.

of course it is worth going. ive seen much much fatter in the ring.
You need to pull his browband down though

I think the noseband is maybe a little wide for his lovely face. Do you have another? Can you photograph him in it and post that for comparison?

Do they make allowances for horses being a tad overweight at this time of year?? Just asking as a potential-showing-newbie.... :D

normaly they should take it into account, but as ive said, it used to be a trend a couple of years ago to have stupidly fat horses in the ring. this is now being cracked down on.
I think any narrower and you run the risk of his head looking plain.

i think he looks lovely!!
Sam is over weight and was very cheeky at his first ever show and still came 2nd out of 14. and the judge said if he hadnt of been so cheeky he would of won, but he was being a big baby, especially it being his first show. He didnt take the belly into it. So i think you should go and enjoy!!

1" don't have this anymore though and can't get one for next weekend.

I think it'd help if all the photos showed it at the same angle.

I don't think his weight would matter much usually. We certainly normally compete against ponies that have more condition (or not enough) and I see very few that are spot on - it's not easy to get the right balance sometimes. However the shows that I can go to next Sunday are of a higher calibre than we would normally go to for local level, so whilst we could normally make up for the weight with manners and experience (and an outline at the end of last season) I don't think that'd help us out as much.

I like the first, widest browband on him :) I'm trying to slim Phantom down in the vain attempt to be able to take him to a show at the end of the month...he has suddenly developed a double belly :(

i like the wider noseband too. he is a bit lardy, but go anyway, it'll be some exercise for him!

ok.. you can all donate 'extra' belly to my 2 year old rescue ;) we're trying to fatten him up but he keeps growing up!! :p Is getting fleshy bits now though! :D Still a ribby belly though.

I like the thinner noseband. But have no showing experience so probably best to ignore me! :p

If I'm just doing one class we have an hours steep-hill hack to get there, and another one to get back. Have to go down the valley and back up the other side you see. So that will help, but I'd have to set off about 11 for a 3pm class to give him time to recover. ;)

I'll stick with the wider noseband as it fits him the best! Although there's a bit too much excess around the nose, and I'm debating whether or not to cut it.

I also like the chunkier noseband, but may be inclined to loose the slip head as i think it makes his head loko a littel clutterd.
