Just wondering what everyone does with their ponies, do you compete, if so what in? Anyone do dressage, jumping, cross country?

I've just done my first jumping class (15" woohoo) and first dressage test (walk and trot) with Cassie this month, and we've started showing, and hope to start doing hunter trials next month! (2'0 restricted novice here we come!)

She's 13.2hh, i'm 23, and 5'3 :)

i do SJ on my 14.1, lightweight and i'm 5ft6. i do look a bit big, but we do fine. Only problem is that we compete 2ft3/6 and so we end up actually being the taller ones in the class :)

My friend ride her 14.1, piebald in novice dressage and both of the love it!

So far this year my Highland has done dressage and a pleasure ride - we are entered for mini Show jumping, showing and M&M nursery novice WHP and another pleasure ride - and will do combined training and a ODE before the year is out.

Don't do Trec as I can't find any close enough - and I will finish breaking him to drive in the summer. If I win the lottery and lose 2 stone he will get a side-saddle

Now what have I forgetten - oh - mounted games - think I might get to do that too at the breed show!!!!!!!

Do I want to swap for a horse - silly question - I never did all this with my warmblood!!!!!

i also show and do a bit of stressage, we showjump most of the foresters but not petal as she had an accident a few years ago which means she doesn't jump.

I actually forgot to mention Phantom as well, he's a 14.1hh part bred NF gelding. We've shown a couple of times, attempted a clear round, and attempted dressage once! But i'm always hoping we'll do more, he's got a good jump on him but is er..'temperamental' :D

Here he is just before our dressage test last year:

I have something to ask you all or if not get your opinions on..............

Should my mum give up SJ because she is deciding on quitting SJ and XC because earlier 2day she had a really bad fall during SJ and had 2 be taken to hospital by the Air Ambulance and suffered from concussion and really bad back pains.....She was jumping for the rider ride and relax qualifier 0.95 and was on the second part of the double and her horse(dolly) ran out whilst mum was in the SJ position and ready for dolly 2 jump but dolly ducked out and mum landed on the floor head 1st.....and she was lying on the floor for about 30-45 mins then the Air Ambulance and the normal ambulance came..what do you think she should do??? quit or not quit????

hi shooting star.
i dont think ya mum should quit at all.i had a really bad fall off 1 of my ponies wen we was in the jump off at a local show. it was a the same sort of thing as ya mum,my pony ran out of a jump and i fell on to them leaving me an the ground then having to go to hospital. i fractured my coller bone broke my right arm and pulled sumthing in my back. i was out of riding for 6 mths.it is a worry but i got back into the saddle as soon as i could:p tho i am a bit more worrying now.

Hi all, Just found this forum!

I've been criticised alot recently as I compete my 14.2 hh Welsh D x in dressage unaff but hoping to go affiliated soon. I'm 22 and 5'6.

Have had her 12 years so don't want to part with her but people at the yard and my instructor keep suggesting I should get something bigger. Ponies are only for teenagers.

Then I have my 22 yr old friend who also has a 14.2hh say they're all so stuck up and at least with our ponies we know what we get, we can hack them out on our own and not worry, and neither of us look too big really.

I compete my pone in 3ft jumping classes but Im getting sick of the unaffilated way at the mo. People seem to be all about winning there is no fun in it now :(

May try affiliated next year see if thats any better.

Im 22 so cant do junior classes so will have to register him as a horse will be my only trouble.

Shooting Star, I dont think your mum should quit riding - but - this is her decision. I had a really bad fall off my friend's horse (she fell on top of me and I had weeks off work). I didn't ride for about 9 months but then got bitten by the bug again. I was horseless at the time so went out and bought a young Exmoor pony. Having such a bad fall does make you a bit wary, especially if you're older. This is one of the reasons why I didn't break my young pony in myself this time.

I show my 14.2 welshie, I'm 18 (although age doesn't matter for purebred natives ;)) and 5'6, 52kg. I definately don't look out of place in my classes, but at my local riding club I'm usually the oldest in the M&M ridden class.

I bought a 14h Section B in May she had only ever competed at dressage however had obvouisly done too much in her past career and decided she would no longer work on the flat. So i bought her as i knew she loved to hack and could pop a small jump so we did a few in the field and i decided to take her to a show 3 wks after buying her, we just did the 2ft open as im 24 and 5ft5 weighing 9 stone so didnt want to push her to much, bless her and we came first! Took her to another on Sun and we came 3rd in 2ft3 and decided to try her at 2ft6 and she went really well and we came 2nd. Not bad for an £1100 inc tack and rugs pony! I'll never go back to horses....ponies are soooo much more fun!! ;)

My pony is 14hh and she's done everything over the years! Last summer I competed mainly in dressage, showjumping showing and sponsered rides. my Mum wants to do some in-hand classes with her (I'm going to get her in the dressage ring :D ) and a friend's little girl at the yard would like to do some little showjumping with her - no doubt I'll end up doing a complete mix with her again!
