First show isn't far away - have been practicing a show but I'm not happy with it and think it's ambitious for a first one (2 figs of 8??? fine for everyday schooling but think it's taking on a bit much for a first time show, downward transitions can be a tiny bit based on luck at the best of time!!)

Could anyone list a simple (and hopefully effective) show for mountain and moorland ridden? Didn't realise extended trot should be in there somewhere until this week - can't believe I've decided to do this, I feel like I'm getting ready to take O levels again!!!!! Many thanks for your replies and apologise if this post has been done before ......

ps Daffy thanks to your super reply on bridles we are motoring with double reins now, many thanks!!

This is what I do, or would do if we could manage it all. If you can't do an extended trot/reinback don't do it, (even if the judge asks) and just don't mention anything about it.

Walk away from judge for 5-10 strides
Trot around short side and extend down the diagonal
Into canter around the next short side and change the rein through trot across the diagonal (they usually extend a bit here due to the impulsion from canter anyway)
Into canter at the next corner, go on the short side in canter
Once you get round the next corner onto the straight ease into a gallop
Pull up just before the next corner into a canter for 3/4 strides
Back to trot down the short side and turn down the center line into walk.

Try and halt at the end where the judge can see the whole of you and your horse. Obviously if they ask for two figures of 8 you'll have to show it, but a bit of practise and they get them no problem. If you struggle with canter leads, remember to bend your horse to the inside and use a lot of inside leg and seat before asking with your outside leg. :)

Ditto, didn't know anything about extended trott and was told it was unlikely that I'd be expected to do a gallop.
I am riding Bry in her Kimblewick also as she is having bit issues at the mo anyway without introducing a pelham or double bridle.
