my pony maya, is very fast (except in the indoor: could this be b/c thats were j.c. used to ride her most of the time?), especially when she jumps (she still gets fast when i jump in teh indoor, but not as fast as when i jump in the outdoor) .....i can hardly get her to stop!! she just takes off in front of jumps. If i keep my leg on so she wont run out, she goes even faster after the jump, and i have no hope of ever slowing her down. but if i dont keep my leg on, she might refuse (VERY rarely does she refuse, but still..she does occasionally). I dont know what to do to teach her to stay slow into fences. when j.c. used to jump her, he'd just let her gallop around the ring..could this be why she's like that now? I hate to use my kimberwick, too, except in shows. any ideas would be great. thanks!

Poles and gridwork makes them slow down, think and place themselves better. ( or crash!)

Just curious ... what's her mouth like when she gets fast ? Strong ? Light ? Behind ?

Perhaps you should try working some to get her to lighten up on her bridle ... then she'll listen to your hands more, instead of just your legs or her own whims. Whenever you feel her get strong make her halt and back a few steps, or until she lightens up a tad. Then give her back the reins and proceed. Eventually she will be easier in the bridle, and will respond to your cues to slow her down better.
