I bought one of these (http://www.clippersharp.co.uk/maneandtailthinners.php) from the tack shop the other day, what a life saver! Cassie's mane is absolutely huge, at the dressage even a small child was playing with it and saying she needed "a haircut"! So point taken, and not wanting to spend hours with the solocomb, I used my new gadget, it's brilliant, in a few minutes I had a mane that could be plaited! Then to shorten it I just go over it with the solocomb as usual.
Haven't tried it on the tails yet, it's been a bit wet, but what a time saver :D
(I have the black plastic 'standard one')

Yeah that's how I would describe Cassies! Basically you brush the mane over to the wrong side and rake the tool through it, so it's thinning out the underneath. It's really quick and easy and doesn't look 'chopped' or anything. It doesn't shorten it, just thins it out.

oooh they look vicious when looked at out of the corner of your eye lol. i could reaaaaaaallly do with one of them for red's tail for the show. considering it's not been washed or able to put a brush through for the past 9 months to a year then well yeah, it could come in handy!

Just a word of warning....
Be careful how high up the name you start thinning. i used it on my sec b and it ended up cutting some of the fromt hairs too, even though I was using in on the wrong side of the mane. She now has sticky up bit all along her mane where the cut peices have started to grow - rather like a solo comb effect.

Be aware if using them on a mane, that when you plait up, you may have spikey bits sticking out all over. These combs are fab on tails (I have the Supreme version, got it from Olympia at Xmas), and m&m manes, but not so good on manes that are to be plaited.

Probly be a good idea for me-last year I hacked away at Blackies mane and tail and left him nearly bald-poor love!
Cant let me near combs, clippers or trimmers I get too excited and leave them them bald!!!!!!!

Yes I did do it a bit too high so have the sticky up effect on Phantom, but not Cassie. Will be plaiting Phantom's at the weekend so will see the effect it has! As long as I no longer have big fat plaits I won't mind too much :)
