Hello,
Just found this wonderful web site! I did not know so many others rode ponies too.
I have a 12.3 Icelandic and a 13.3 hand Fjord. Am shopping for another Icelandic.
Here are some pics of my ponies. I am on the grey Icelandic, and my son was riding our super sweet fjord mare.

Thank you for the warm welcome.
Is why I do not ride my Fjord as much... getting older and gimpy. Though photos don't show it!:D
Julia, do you have a picture of your Exmoor that you can post? Would love to see her.

I am using a Star Trekk comfort shorty on her. Originally bought for my Icelandic but desided I liked it on the Fjord better.
Boy, is that Treeless ever so comfy!!
Yes, the Fjord has a Dr cook Bitless bridle on...and she loves it!
~~ ~ ~
I am a horse Addict!! Can't help it,, started when I was 5 years old and never stopped!!
Well Wally... I wanted something a little less sensitive than my Icelandic. Even with all the miles and training I have put on her she can at times, make a drama Queen look like she is asleep. Some days,, I just want to relax and not worry.
So horse shopping I went...
I like smaller horses and I found this wonderful Fjord mare very well trained to ride and drive. So I bought her.
Then I found out I have a bad disk in my back, so my son rides her. I just make sure she stays tuned up every couple of weeks.
Just my luck of course.:p
Back to horse shopping again,,now that I know I need a super smooth small gaited horse.
Found a couple of nice Icelandic mares yesterday. Will go for a long trail ride next week to figure out which will suit better.
They are both a little smaller and a little more narrow than I was looking for but well built Icelandic's in these parts are hard to find. Good steady level headed minds are more important!!
Would love to see pictures of yours too Wally!

Hi Sharin and welcome to this friendly board. I'm an adult and I own a 13.3hh Fell gelding, Falcon. Being small, I find ponies are ideal for me. Hope you'll enjoy joining in with all the friendly banter here.

Very nice "Not" to hear the usual comments the non pony riders make.
You are a great group of people!:D

Aaaawwwww!
Before I had Icelandics I had Haflingers, I used to drool over the Fjords at the big county shows in the next ring to us. Then one day I got one......or two.....or three and a half! :D :D
Fjords are just divine, love to to bits, so kind, so gentle, not as smart and quick witted as an Icelandic, but that's not such a bad thing. Can be frustrating, it's like having had working sheepdogs all your life, then having to make to with a soppy labrador. Love you to bits, but not the sharpest tool in the box! ;)

<LOL>
Dyfra my Icelandic used to like getting Dustenai my Fjord into trouble all the time. I knew my Icelandic was doing it on purpose,, finallyyyy my Fjord figured it out. Was funny to watch though. :p
Though my Fjord is more level headed out on the trail.

We have one Icelandic that the Shetlands get into trouble all the time. He'd be the kid who fell for the "blue goldfish in the loo" trick every time!
Kina, one of the mares, is like a big fat vicar's wife, big hat, enthusiastic about everything, handbag on her arm, with sweeties for the kids in it. Always got a clean hanky, and join in the sack race on the village fete day, always got a smile on her face, efficient and kind. Not graceful, or overly clever. :D :D The stallion was like the flippin vicar! Ride around the village on his bicycle, doing good deeds!

Hello Sharin - Your horses are booooooooootiful. I got my first Icelandic six months ago and love him to bits. Its funny cos he doesnt feel small - there is such a presence under that saddle so even tho I am nearly five foot nine and not a lightweight, we feel as if we fit together. His last owner was over six foot!
There seem to be more and more Iceys coming onto this site - I dont feel lonely now.
Hope to have some more conversations in due course!

Welcome to the world of Icelandic's!
That is one of the things that are so neat about them... one does not feel like they are riding on a small horse. Maybe it is their ego is so much bigger. <LOL>:D
Suprises a lot of people when they first ride an Icelandic. I get, Wow,, they don't feel small!
Of course I would love to see pictures of your Icelandic!!

I've ridden icelandics a few times before at the pentland icelandics. My faviorite is called Glampi. I was really nervous the first time I rode him as I was told he was very forward going. But the lady who runs the center assured me I'd be fine on him and that if I felt he was going too fast to put him at the back as he'd be a plod at the back.
I totally loved him! He was a little angel and the ride leaders kept on going on about how he was looking after me (they sounded a little suprised!! So maybe he liked me!! :D)
The second time I rode him he was much faster, but I was more confident with him, and I must say, I did egg him on at times! :D
Me and glampi are second from the left.

I am never sure if I am entitled to joint these adults on pony threads as I have mad fun on very cheeky 14.1 Highland, who reckons that showing is NOT for him, but will hammer round Dartmoor all day. However I am also besotted by my mare who at 15.3 ( hides head in shame) is most definitely a horse. Welcome on board and enjoy your small horses. Moss thinks and rides like a 17 hander.

Hi everyone- its so nice to meet other likeminded pony riders who are 'mature'! I've waited 37 years to get my first pony - why would I want a horse? We moved to a farm (where I work) 3 years ago and the house we rent comes with a stable. So then came Rosie - 4 years old and welsh cross. So I also fulfilled my dream of having a youngster. Then, she only went backwards or up, now I ride her all over the farm, looking at the cows, or on the road. My 10 year old rides her and is becoming more confident. We go to the odd show but I'm a nervous tow-er so we don't go far! I see Rosie from my kitchen window when she's in and we've become best mates. All my dreams come true!
I love reading the threads on here about adults on ponies - I know I'm not alone. We can only afford one animal, so it had to be one all the family can ride. Talking of which tomorrow I am going in a family pony class for the first time. Not sure the cantering bit will be as sedate as it should be!

Thanks Est
Enjoyed the show but chickened out of family pony - actually I did the in-hand condition and it ran at the same time but I wasn't really sorry to miss it as we need some more show experience and schooling to do a decent individual show I think. Spent hours plaiting, cleaning tack etc for tack and turnout and didn't come anywhere- it was a 'present yourself to the judge sometime between 9 and 11' class so didn't see the opposition. Mind you with a grey I was at a disadvantage to start with - Rosie likes to wear her 'green make-up' especially on show days!
I got a 5th in the condition class, which was my first ever in-hand class, and my daughter got 6th in the 18" jumping - yesterday was the first time she had jumped without me running along or being in the ring. So not bad overall. We were pleased anyway.
I don't know how to attach my photos as they are too many kilobytes!

Oh hello, you must try to post some pics. Have you a photo manipulation prog on the computer, you can make them smaller on that, then re save them to another file for small pics for the web.
500pixels is the larges you can upload on here. I do mine 500X 350 ish.

....or open a photo bucket account and cut and paste the URL box into the window that opens when you press the little photo icon on the menu above, little mountains on a yellow background.
Photo bucket usually resise them for you or you can do it yourself through their edit menu.
