View Full Version : In-hand bridle?
Miska

In a month I am planning to compete Miska in a vetran in-hand class. I have no idea what to do about the tack. As she is a full-bred arabian, I think she is supposed to have some kind of arabian halter thing, but I can't really do that in a vetran class (specially as they're so expensive!).
I want to have a bit, because although she is 21 she is still spirited. Her bridle at the moment may do (sorry bout pic, couldn't find a better one of head):

But then I think I may need a new browband (colour input needed). Then if the the bridle is ok to do inhand showing in...then what do I do for a leadrein? and how does the leadrein connect to the bridle (is it a coupling or on the noseband etc)?
Here she is in her full glory (ignore me on her back):

Finally, would I need a brass bit?
(sorry if none of the above makes sense, as i'm completley clueless!)
(10% off at Robinsons ;) - so thought i'd work out what i need now)

in veteran classes you realy should turnout to type. that means arab halter. I currently have 2 for sale BTW.
You could get away with an ordinary bridle, but because yours has buckles at the end it realy isnt suitable for showing and the browband is NOT suitable at all.
If it is a VHS class you are marked on turnout as well

Its a serious show but isn't like a specialist one or a fun show but it has a bit of everything.
How much are your halters?

Do you have a picture? - I was hesitant about buying arab halter, as I know nothing about them! (Miska's head is small though, she's usually pony size.)

I like the bottom one - I could sew a tassle on easy enough! Which one would be the strongest? or the one that you would have the most control? I'm not sure if the top one would fit Miska...
(sorry about all the questions ;))
Holiday - hmmm....yeah i've always wanted an arab halter...now i have an excuse. The ones I have looked at on ebay etc have been like £80! even the Robinsons one was £69!

the top one is stronger as it is made of leather and has a chain for control. the bottom one is cotton, and you realy couldnt use it on something that pulls as there is no chain. Rian our arab (in the pictures) wears a large pony or small cob bridle, both were slightly too small. The reason i dont have any photos of the second one is it wouldnt fasten on him. the top one fastened but only just and rode up close to his eyes. thus we got the blue one made for us.

Top ones probably best then, as i've never done inhand and Miska's ok when being ridden but I ma unsure about inhand.
Would it be ok, if i measured Miska and then pm'ed u with her measurements (tommorrow) and then u could check if the top one fits (measurement wise)? i am sorely tempted...I haven't really looked elsewhere except on ebay.
If it did fit and I decided I wanted it, would you post it to sussex (SE)? also would i have to buy myself a leadrope sepretley, or would that come with it?

lead comes with it, and if you pay postage i'll post it anywhere you want!
Pm me the measurements, but please dont expect a quick reply im at a show sunday and monday so it would be tuesday at the earliest before i can measure the bridle.

i have 2 of them huff puff, they are lovely untill you have to clean them, and are not good for small shows, the only time i ever would use it is for fancy dress or the national arab championship.

Its lovely huff-puff but i think Miska may look a bit stupid if I turn up to a vetran competition in that.
Don't worry Kunuma, I will be a while as i have to remember to actually measure her!
