Hi!

I have been convinced by my (so called) friends, that this will be fun!!!

But its not as bad as it sounds - its MINI team chasing (2ft 6) at Newton Hall EC on Thurs 22nd June, we have 2 very sound lead event horses, so I will be around the middle hopefully just enjoying the blast round a x-country course to give my novice x-country horse and me some confidence (and fun!!)

Anyway - my real question is - she is currently schooled/sj/hacked/x-countried in a happy mouth loose ring french link snaffle. No braking issues at all.

However, I do appreciate this a whole new ball game - what do I do? I took her hunting last winter, once, in a waterford and she bolted with me twice!!!! V scary experience on a ex-racehorse!!!!!

So any suggestions would be gratefully received!!!

Thanks

do you need a different bit? I wouldnt assume that you did, especially that you currently do everything and no braking issues? If you put a stronger/different bit in for hunting you might just have got an adverse reaction to that particular bit, especially with ex racehorses when dropping the contact means stop?

Is there anyway you can replicate the team chasing on a xc course beforehand in your normal bit and see what happens?

...frankly I think you must have had a lobotomy to contemplate team chasing BTW!!!:D

ooo mini team chasing, thats sounds fun!:D
my girl is also an ex racer and will jump anything if someones in front, could be our new sport:D
if you think you might need more brakes how about a hackamore or similar over the top so you can pick it up if you need it, that way she has the same bit shes used to but you have extra brakes:)

Try her in the same one you normally have, whats the point of changing it if it works? I know its a new environment an all, but changing the bit at the last minute is just going to be something else new to your horse, as its only mini give it a go in your normal bit and see how it goes :)

Good luck! :)
