Think it would be another potential weapon in the war to win tack and turnout, or shall I not bother?
This burgundy (http://www.robinsons-uk.com/products/ProductDetail.asp?ProductCode=86429) one as it'd match my tie and the ribbons I'll be threading through his plait. We can do bling :p
Of course, I am an "adult" and I know they are a bit frowned upon, ok very frowned upon, on adults, but I do compete against kids on a pony, and really, who can resist matching accessories? :D

I'm not really an expert in showing, BUT, i'm not sure. I think you can look too colourful, and overdo it with the matching-ness. Keep it nice and simple.

They are frowned upon in horse classes (but then so are purple browbands ;)), and I could *just* get away with one on a M&M, although I wouldn't normally consider it.
It's just that this is local level T&T, where black jackets, huge button holes, bright ties, ribbons and bling browbands generally reign supreme, even if the pony has mucky socks! "Because it looks cute"
I think I'll order one anyway, I wanted a new showcane too, and then I have the option on the day. I think it'll help hide the messy bits around my bun too - my hair just doesn't wan't to play at the moment!

I know nothing of the class you are competing in, but what about a nice snood?

*blank face* what's a snood? :p
ETA, class is the same as; Smartest on Parade, Best Turned out, Tack and Turnout etc - judged on cleanliness and general turnout of the animal and rider.

Oh right. I think I'd get told off for that one! Having my hair in a bun, just wasnt sure whether to put a scrunchie around it.
I think I'm going to go down the non-scrunchie route - hopefully I can win it on the basis of my attention to detail rather than a little piece of velvet and ribbon. ;)

I'm thinking of having a go at T&T on my 14.2 welsh cob. I have the correct tack and clothing for myself (brown tweed jacket, red tie, canary jods etc). What other 'extras' should I try to beat the ponies? What is this plait with ribbon? I have heard about spare gloves under the saddle etc., although I am not too sure on this. Would be glad of some pointers..!

Basically it was traditional for all welshies (except B's I think) to have a single plait, left long, behind the right ear to show off the jawline. They used to put one or two coloured (ie red and white or red and blue) ribbons through it as well. Some people consider the ribbons a little old fashioned now, but I figure that in T&T it's the attention to detail that'll win you the class. I've gone for thin burgundy and cream ribbons to match my tie, as I've no red or white anywhere.
The gloves under the saddle flaps is so that you have a spare pair when hunting. I've bought myself a pair of leather gloves to stick under, really thin ones so they don't get in the way.
You're also meant to have a folding hoofpick, some string and a 10p in your pockets. I think the 10p is pretty useless, but whatever I guess. Someone else suggested a hankerchief, but having thought about it, that's pretty manly, I'll have a wetwipe anyway (last minute touchups!) and I don't want to over fill my pockets.
This thread (http://www.newrider.com/forum/showthread.php?t=69104) should cover it all I think. :)

If it is like driving spares kits they have updated the 10p to at least 30p (it is to pay for a phone call) or a mobile phone although I would guess that would not be correct ridden (Wally will have to correct me whether you are allowed a mobile in show driving or whether it still has to be the 30p). Anyway my take on it would be to replace the 10p with 30p to pay for a local phone call.

Do the judges look in your pockets then? How else would they know about the 10p etc? Or do you empty your pockets and show what you have in them to the judge?!!

I'll stick a quid in then. Pays for a phone call and a drink, but doesn't jingle as much as two coins ;) Sometimes I do show with a mobile in my pocket, although that's because I'm on my own on the showground with no support team!
The judge will ask what's in your pockets if they feel like checking. So it's just in case they do really. They should be able to notice a little bulk if they're looking closely enough. But things like the gloves are going to be obvious when they check your girth.

Well, I didn't mean that fancy! if you put it in a hair net like that then fasten an elastic round it it looks like a bun but hangs low in the nape of your neck. It works-honest!
