I'd speak to your vet. There are varying degrees depending on if the bone has fused or not. A 5 year old gelding on our yard has just been diagnosed with it and is in obvious pain. I think the vets are saying jumping is not advised even when bone is fused. But another livery had a horse with spavin and I'm sure she said that she low-level evented him but obviously it will have been cleared by the vet. Could be wrong bout that last bit though xxx

i think i will ask the vet just to be on the safe side.his bone has fused and iv seen the x-rays that show it so i know hes ok,the person i had him off was doing local shows on him working hunter, ridden showing and novice jumping she also hunted him that was in the early stages of the spavin.then she turned him out for 10 mths then i had him.thats why i wasnt sure if to try jumpin him again or not incase it triggered it off.

Bone spavin is arthritis between the little joints in the hocks, which don't have much movement anyways. Once they fuse together, that should be it - no more problems. BUT I'd want to be looking at WHY such a young horse has arthritis - usually due to DJD, which can affect other joints.
