Hiya,
I'm currently looking to buy a horse and have come accross one which looks great and shes registered BSJA and jumping Discovery and open and qualified 2nd round BN.
If I bought this horse would I still be able to do unaff comps and low level BSJA or would I have to go straight in at open?
Also would it be the horse and rider registered or just the horse?
Someone who understands all the BSJA registration and rules please help!!
Thanks :D

You need to find out what grade she is. This determines what classes you can and cant jump. Unless rules state affiliated horses cant compete at that particular show then yes, you wil be able to jump unaffiliated. You would need to register to jump the horse bsja ;) Natxxx

Grade isent just enough on its own, you need to know her winnings.
What amount dictates what classes she can do, I think (if I remember correctly) its £100 before your out of BN and £175 before your out of Disc.
Check out the BSJA website they have it all on there.
You both have to be registered to jump BSJA, you can jump the lowest your allowed to by your winnings, and the opens of course.
Unaff depends on particular show rules, some say not to have won a certain amount of money, others say horse and rider 'combination' not to have won a certain amount or certain amount of times etc, check the show ruling for the class.

Also be very careful if you want to do RC competitions as the limits are quite low for those - if she's won £300 you can't even do Open show jumping at RC. So really you need to look into the rules for the competitions you want to do.

If the horse is currently jumping discovery it has won less than £175, even thought you can't jump british novice, you would be able to do the opens and opens start at the same height as british novice- 90cm :)
You wouldnt have to re-register the horse, just change the ownership, and register yourself, and depending on your age an adult aswel.

If your horse is reg BSJA you're not 'meant' to jump unaff where the prize money exceeds £10 for first... although everyone still does!
