OK..here's the situation:rolleyes:. I ride a 12 hh pony named Sonny, and I love him to pieces, although he's a dork and doesn't have that much repsect (has gotten MUCH better tho). He's 17 and a Welsh mix. Im 14 and weigh about 100 pounds and Im about 5". I know I am to big for him, and I know that he has nooo problem carrying me, but im just wondering...do judges take that kind of stuff into perspective when you go in shows?

whas 100 pounds in stones

Im 15 and ride a 12.2hh called glory. I know i look stupid (im 5ft3) but no-oine else wants to ride her:D

About the shows - do you mean showing? Of so, I dont think they mind, but im not sure - ask one of the showing experts on here. I dont think they mind because ou often see adults on welshies so...

What do you want to show him in? I mean, in show jumping (which is what this forum is) it's straight time/faults...no subjective judging involved. In hunter/eq...if you look really outsized on your pony it probably won't help your cause, depends on the event and the judge how much it counts

In some schedules it says the 'overall picture' will be taken into account, I think that means that your size will be looked at. Think thats only for show classes though, for stuff like jumping and gymkhana games size of rider doesn't matter. As long as the pony can carry you...

I ride a 11.3hh pony called Timmie, so I have the same problem, being too tall but not too heavy. I have given up on riding the yard Shetland though, at least untill I learn to stay on him! He's too bouncy! Ok, I'm going slightly off topic I think, I'll just leave it there...

I know that in hunter/eq, depending on the type/rating of the show and judging, you can be eliminated if you're too big for your pony. That's somewhat subjective, but as dilaika wrote, they look at the overall image you portray with your horse.

I don't think you're too big for the pony as far as weight goes, although you might look funny if your heels come below the girth line. I think it depends a LOT on what kind of showing you're doing and where you live. The judges at local open hunter/jumper and english equitation shows around HERE would probably look down on you a little for riding a too small pony(well, for riding a pony at all maybe) but then again it seems like everyone in UK rides ponies!(which often look ridiculously too small for the rider, no offense!) I have no idea about Canada. Good luck!
