Is it possible to use an old chest freezer to store feed or will it go mouldy? Has anyone tried this?! :)

I do this, old chest freezer, keeps the mice out and holds loads of bags of nuts. I keep beet nuts in one section and pony nuts in the other. Very handy. It takes exactly one bag in one section and about 6 in the main body.

yes, we do this. You can often get them from your local rubbish dump

Yes, they work quite well, another tip is if you have a handy man, get them to take the motor out which makes it heaps lighter and you could even get castors put on the bottom to make moving it easier!

Couldn't survive without ours! - have kept feed in them successfully for years.

When we had metal dust bins, the mice would _still_ get in - then found dead them in the bottom, yuch. But the rusty old chest freezer seems to keep vermin out.

We fit all 3 winter feed sacks in - chaff, vet mix & sugar beet pellets. No mould to date - but they consume the feed fairly qiuckly...

Oh great, brilliant! I'll go searching for one.

I have a new horse this winter to look after (mostly TB) and he likes eating! My two dustbins aren't going to be enough and those lovely shiny galvanised ones are not cheap... Thank you!! :D
