i bought Shearer a fly fringe the other day, because he seems to be bothered by the flies a lot on his face. It was one of the ones where you dont need a headcollar to attatch it. He got it off last night and broke it, so i dont know wether or not to get him another one? They arent expensive but he is going to keep getting it off so i dont really know if there's any point? I put fly wipes on his face everyday and spray his body everyday which definatly helps, and he has a new nose thingy to stop his nose getting burnt, but i dont know wether to get another fly fringe?
They dont do disposable ones do they?:p

Mine did exactly the same it was velcro tho and got it off! I had to search a 10 acre field to find it after-lucky it was bright purple otherwise I wouldnt have found it!! I wouldnt bother with those ones just go for the full mask.

Shearer's is bright purple aswell, and the grass is really long so i doubt i'll find it anyway! He wont have one of those masks on his face, he only just lets me put a fly fringe on his face :p

if you stand at the side of him with the mask will he let you put it on? like you would with a bridle.
i have 2 horses that were really head shy, they arent so anymore (ceryns got over it in the few months weve had her) but i stand at the side and let them drop there heads then put it on, they are ok with it then:)

i think you can get riding ones that you can attach to a headcollar, or just put the mask underneath.
tesco sell thin mesh ones for £7, but a thicker mesh would probably be better as it wouldnt be so easy to rip, you can get them with built in nose nets aswell (ive got 2, a roma one and a funnel one, funnel one was £12.50) :)

could you not try and slowly get him used to it. my pony used to hate his fieldmate having one on, think he thought she looked really odd! but he did get used to it. (know it itsnt quite the same situation) but could you try attaching it to the field gate so he can see it and get used to it being around him and gradually try putting it on his head. My mare was extremely head shy, was beaten round the head as a youngster but she is now fine with it.
i think in the long run he will benefit from it, you can get one which has a nose net attached to it, although they are more expensive.

Tescos are doing a trial where they ar selling equestrian products, they sell fly masks for cheaper than the well known brands, i didnt know if my horse would like it so i got that and she is fine. When and if that one wears out i will then spend more on one but for nowit seems great.
