Hello!
Does anyone have any ideas how to make vaseline (or similar) based fly repellant (similar to Flyway's 3 in 1 guard)? I use the Flyaway stuff on angel's ears, but was thinking it might be cheaper to make my own with citronella or something.

I make my own by mixing Deosect with citronella and vasoline. (my mare gets lumps from flybites in her girth area so only apply it here.) you could just use citronella.

how much citronella in how much vaseline? do you just drip it in and uhm stir? or do you heat up the vaseline somehow? (sorry if i sound thick but ive never attempted anything like it before!)

I tried this once, but I couldn't really get it to work. I used a home made fly-spray "recipe" I found in a magazine and tried to mix some of that into some vaseline in a tub. It seemed to just go a bit gooey and horrible so I ended up not using it.
Can't remember the recipe I used (it had water, citronella, washing up liquid, tea and vinegar but I can't remember the volumes of each), but you should be able to find a fly-spray recipe here or on the net? Maybe a different recipe would work better than the one I tried!
