OMG talk about sick!

Last night i covered vicky and rosie's chesnuts in vaseline YAK! so that was vile enough then this morning had to peel them off :( Its just wrong. The first one came off and i ran around for 10 minutes screaming yakky yakky yak. Rosies were worse she kicked me in the hand and wouldnt keep still :rolleyes:

plus not all the chestnut came off. Should i try again maybe next week?

I don't bother removing chestnuts, I just let them come off in their own time. One of Kizzy's dropped off of its own accord the other day when I was brushing her leg. I'm too squeamish to peel one off, I watched my friend do it once and it was horrid! :rolleyes:

I did Pride's the other day, i hate it so much. I would leave them to come off naturally but it makes me feel nearly as sick when they are all long and in the way when i groom lol

My thoroghbreds chestnuts never seem to grow? is this normal in thorogbreds or is she just odd?

Yeah it can be. My TB's grow slowly and she has no front ergots!

horsemaniac- yes you can leave them. vix's were huge and i was worried about her catching them and they're ugly lol. Fleurs chesnuts never grow haha strange pony Natxxx

becky peeled Red's back ones off the other day because they looked manky and were massive, i couldn't watch it just looks absolutely disgusting. she looked at the front ones and went no way am i doing those ones, the farrier'll do them next week :D:p

Never knew you had to do this - but I was taught all the old-fashioned ways (from the 70s/80s) :rolleyes: We just left them and never seen them cause any problems.

Because they get long and can catch on something. And also they dont really look that nice especialy the erots. Shearer's stick out and make the bits of feather he has stick out aswell :rolleyes:

What's yukky about them? I don't mind cutting my own nails...
If there's a big chestnut hanging off I'll generally nip it off with hoof nippers to stop the brush catching in it, but it's no big deal.

Then again, I don't mind picking scabs off mud fever either, maybe I'm just not squeamish?

yak!!! i just leave skittles's and they alays drop off in he feild but then i can never ever find them and i've always wanted to keep one for some strange reason :rolleyes:

Ergh!!! sounds yukky!! lol...my farrier just pulled my horses off!! and the ergot and he didn't say anything about it! i looked at mum and was like EWWW! lol...
