Never really thought about it much as when i was younger in poland we use to ride the mares pretty much up to foaling time...and then not long after we would ride the mares again with the foals at foot.
my question is now, is there a time span where you have to be careful with a mare after she was covered to avoid miscarriage?

My mare was still showjumping for the beginning of her pregnancy. She was fine. I think it would depend on wether or not the mare had a history of miscarriage. It takes approximately 14 to 21 days to determine pregnancy so if you were in doubt I'd wait till the mare was confirmed in foal.

A friend of mine breeds, they always continue as normal (they don't jump even when the mare aren't in foal so can't comment on that) until either the mare gets uncomfortable or in the last 3 months they slow up to only slow plods down the lane, then once foal is born they pretty much start again straight away, just for short periods for the first couple of months.
