After the trouble that I've (and Laura+Phamtom I believe) had this week trying to get my horribly sweaty and swollen feet out of my pull on leather long boots I'm starting to think that there must be some tip which I'm missing out on.
One of the problems I had was that my sock slipped down my foot and wrinkled around my ankle so it rubbed my foot almost raw when I tried to pull my boot off. Am I right in thinking that longer socks are the way to go? Any particular type?
I can vaguely remember a tip about talc...does talc on your feet help the boot slide off any easier or did I make it up?
Any other tips other than buy some boots with a zip!? :o

Someone on here (sorry can't remember who) said you should put your foot in a plastic bag, then put it in your boot.

Alot of people put on "pop" socks - knee length tights - they really help over breeches!!!!

I use good quality, thick, walking boot socks. Whilst they are very bulky, they are of course designed to be so and "squash" down quite nicely in the riding boot. No riding down up or any way around, and they reduce all friction by keeping the boot snug everywhere. AND they will absorb any moisture.
If you think about it, walking boot socks should, by their very design be ideal for riding :)
Where most people (especially you girlies with your "pop socks" - and why oh why are they called that:confused: ) go wrong, is to wear thin socks in their tight boots. More friction, more rubbing and no sweat absorption........
Oh and yes, wear "long" walking boot socks, so that you can tuck the jodhs or breeches right into them before you put the boots on.

I used to wear decent weight socks (high cotton content, normally, as they're cooler) that were long enough to pull up over the bottom of my jodhs/breeches, which helps them not to slip.
Talc in the boots definitely helps; if you're suffering from sweaty feet I certainly wouldn't reccomend plastic bags!

Ross...yeah i thought the plastic bag idea was for putting inside wellies to help keep your feet warm.
Harvey99...I've got some walking socks so will try that. You're right, I did think that they'd be too thick but I'll give it a go. I'll be using talc next time too I think. I'm wishing I'd bought boots with zips!!

That was me :) Trust me, It works. My jockey bf has rediculously tight riding out boots and he has no chance of getting them on or off without the bag to slide his feet in ith and the handels to pull the foot out.
Might get a bit sweaty now you mention it....that explains alot....
