Ohhhhhhhhh I dont know WHAT to do!

Im 5ft10" and Ive been offered a 15.1hh horse (lightweight). I dont look MASSIVELY big on him, but more than afew peeps have given "helpful" comments that I look better on my 16.2hh.
I know this is pathetic coming from a grown woman but Ive always preferred the smaller horses/bigger ponies and I feel bullied into not looking at anything smaller than 16.2hh. :(
People are always commenting if I ride little ones (even random strangers at shows!) and I dont want to get into an argument about it. Im really light so carrying me definately isnt an issue! But the horseworld do love their opinions dont they?
I really really really like this 15.1hh but I dont want to feel constantly paranoid about riding him!
Can someone please offer some pearls of wisdom?

My "pearl of wisdom" is - RISE ABOVE IT!!! (pardon the pun  )

If YOU are happy on this horse and it feels comfortable, who gives a hoot what others say???

I am 5'6 and Cherry is 15hh and I think I look fine on her. The difference between you and your horse is a mere 3".

3" - do you really want to waste time getting hung up on that teeny tiny measurement?

I say go for it and s*d the rest!!! :D :D

Enjoy!!!

Likewise, I'm 5ft 8in and Sennie is 15hh. I look fine, at least i think I do. If your horse can carry you weightwise, then there's no problem.:D

I'm 5'9 and Chunky is 15.1hh in some pictures I look abit big on him but in most pics I look fine on him,
As long as the horse can carry your weight happily then I think you should just ignore what others think and just enjoy riding:)

What are these people on? Why can't they mind their own business?

You'll be fine, so will the horse, if they have a problem with it, that's it, - it's thier problem not yours!

ask them about Charisma... I think he was 15.1 ?

Or Stroller...

I personally think people can be sizist about horses for no practical reason. It just seems to be a status thing "the bigger the better" but actually I reckon that its about how you get on with the horse, and size is only one small factor in the big picture.

The question is whether your worry about this will affect your relationship and enjoyment with the horse ?

i.e. its about *you* not about them ;)

Yep I think youre all right! :)

The difference between you and your horse is a mere 3".
3" - do you really want to waste time getting hung up on that teeny tiny measurement?

Domane - that sentence made me feel pathetic and petty lol. 3" IS a stupid amount to get hung up over.

The rest of you - thanks for your thoughtful words ;) . Im being stupid letting this bother me (and its nice to hear Im not the only one who prefers the littler ones :D ).
