I ride my horse in an abetta saddle with a felt pad. He is 16.3 and a TB cross. My trainer says the saddle fits him well. He's been bucking under a rider which is probably just him being cooped up all week and it being cold, but I want to check on his pad.
What is a good pad for regular riding? Is felt ok? It curves to fit his back. I am very light (100 lb) and my saddle is probably 14 pounds.
Also, how do I find a breast collar to fit my monster?

I am not familiar with that type of saddle. It is a synthetic? Anyway, for practice I ride with either a nice thick saddle pad, or with a light blanket over my therapuetic, cushiony, gel pad thingy. Sorry, I am not sure what it is called, but it is really good. If I have time, I will check for you.
For the breastplate, if you just buy a regular horse size it should fit him. I have shown really broad 16.1-16.3 Quarter horses and horse sized breastplates fit without a problem. If you need something bigger, I would find one that you like, and contact the company that makes them. They will probably be able to custom make one for you, although it might be expensive. I had to do this with my saddle in the sping. I saw a really great Dale Chavez saddle, so much silver, it shone in the sunlight, but the smallest it came in was 15 and I needed a 14, well 13.5, but mom got it made bigger so I could use it for awhile. We just contacted the company, told them what we needed, and they made it. It was a couple of hundred more expensive, but not too bad.
About the bucking, you are probably right. He just needs to get his energy out after standing for a while. It would probably better to lunge before you ride, so you don't stand a chance of falling off. Ten minutes should be enough to get the fresh out of him.

Yes its synthetic, I wanted a light to carry saddle. He's new to western so I didn't want to plop something heavy on him. Plus it fits lots of other horses.
